I know I'm getting more than a bit ahead of myself in asking this, but: given both the short projected timeframe for interviews and selections and the current state of the economy/housing market, does SSA provide assistance with moving and home sales to those selected for ALJ positions that would require a residential relocation? Thanks!

Another benefits-related question: How can I find the union contract? The union's site requires a password, which you can't get if you're not a member.

As I understand it; folks hired from SSA get a relocation package that includes assistance selling your home. I'm not sure but I think relocation benefits may extend to those hired from other government agencies. If you are coming to government from private practice you do not receive relocation benefits.
If you work for SSA the ALJ contract is available on the labor relation intranet website.

Don't put that house on the market just yet, folks--there are a few more laps before the checkered flag. Here is the bottom line on moving assistance: if you work for the government in any civilian capacity, the government pays your move to this new job, including assitance in selling your primary residence, if you own it now. The relocation contractor was criticized by many last year, so it's not a perfect solution, but in THIS market, it's a nice ace to have in the hole. If you do NOT work for the government, it does not pay for your move, or help you sell your home. If you are on active duty in the military, you get one final move when you leave active duty. I used my retirement move when I was hired last year. I got NO assistance on selling my former residence, which I still own. Anyone moving to Falls Church who is interested, drop me a line!
