I suspect this would be difficult for SSA but are there going to be people (e.g. ALJ's etc.) from the ODAR location for which you are being considered, at the interview, or does SSA just determine whether they want to hire you and the actual ODAR office for which you would be hired has no say ?
Thank you for your time. Mike G.

I was told by my RCALJ that he usually does not interview those for his region.

Could someone please tell me the difference between a "HOCALJ" and a "RCALJ"? Who's the big cheese?

HOCALJ = Hearing Office Chief ALJ - he is the local big cheese
RCALJ - Regional Chief ALJ - he is the big cheese for the region. SSA has 10 regions and they all have their own RCALJ.
OCALJ - Office of the Chief ALJ - this is The Big Cheese for the ALJ corp.
It is my understanding that the SSA interviews are conducted by the regional chiefs and the deputy regional chiefs. HOCALJs do not participate unless they happen to be a deputy regional chief. I am not sure if Judge Cristaudo or his staff participate at this point.

My understanding from last year is that individual hearing offices and HOCALJs knew that they had a potential vacancy, but had to wait for OCALJ to notify RCALJ and then for the RCALJ to notify the HOCALJ of the selectees' identities. This process was so slow that the job offers requested newly selected judges to not contact their new office until notified that it was OK to do so. As a result of newly selected ALJs posting their cities of acceptance here, some offices who had people following this board only knew their new ALJs' board identities for up to three weeks after the offers were made.

Not all HOCALJs knew of a potential vacancy last year. I know of one who was told no ALJs would be hired for the office, but when the dust settled, three were hired.
