Was advised by an SSA HR rep yesterday that it will send completed paperwork from candidates (all due by 3/25) to ODAR HQ, and that ODAR HQ will probably start making contact to set interviews the week of 3/30. Anything can change, of course, but this is the information provided.

So . . . that will mean less than two weeks to get hotel reservations and airline reservations to DC - fkights will be more with no '15 day advance purchase" but who cares, right? The taxpayer is paying for this anyway.

No worries on the public fisc. The flight will be at the government rate, which is: 1) refundable and 2) the same no matter what.

I just called and verified that my paperwork went through and was complete. I was told that it was, and had been sent on to ODAR. ODAR is working with the company contracted to do the security clearance work. After the security people are done with their review, Ill be scheduled for an interview.

So they are doing the background checks first, then schedule the interview?? Interesting.

Northwest did you hear by email or phone call--never mind, I see you are saying they said it had been sent on, not that you were being contacted for the actual interview yet. My eyes were faster than my brain... And LB, yes, for whatever reason, the background checks come ahead of the interview

I think the background checks are supposed to happen ahead of the interviews but last year many did not. They were still doing background checks weeks after the interviews were over.

I wonder if there are two tiers: first to see if we're on the FBI's most wanted list, and then something more detailed. If there's something other than a fairly minimal background check, I don't see how they could complete this in time to schedule interviews.

NW, what # did you call to verify SSA rec'd your paperwork? I called Elizabeth Fox, (410) 965-4482. There are 3 possible emails & phone #s on the cover letter attaching the documents. It's amazingly refreshing to talk to a real person who is willing to give a real phone number. Quite a contrast with the attitude at OPM. Ms. Fox was very nice, and walked down the hall to find my paperwork.

Yeah and alot of posters were in their cups that they (OMNI, Yale) hadn't gotten them done "in time". This requires a whole heckuva lotta phone calls...
