O.K. - so now that scores are out, and we can't understand what the heck is going out with them yet, let's see if we can't get a better idea of how many sites people selected for availability. No value judgments. Just those of us that want to share, sharing. I'm lucky. I can truly go anywhere. So, I chose "all." How about you? How many sites did you choose?

Dr: I chose about 100 sites. I eliminated the high cost of living areas (big cities) where I couldn't afford to live anyway. With my score my only hope is likely to be East Bumcluck-

I listed 63 sites. Given my score, I doubt that I'll be leaving private practice any time soon.

About 15 sites from Baltimore south in the southeast, plus some outliers.

I chose all locations, but would prefer somewhere in the south or midwest. However, I'd go anywhere.

I picked about 20 sites, mostly midwest plus cities in the east coast where I have relatives - DC, NY, other pipe dreams. I'm hoping that Little Rock, Omaha, and/or Des Moines are so unpopular (no offense - I'm hoping to go to them) that I have little competition.

I only chose 20 sites based on whether I would want to live there or not. Of course, that was at 3 in the morning after two days of getting my application together. Today when I look at the list there are many more cities I wish I had added. But I am stuck with what I picked. Sigh.

I picked about 60, spread throughout the country -- including some that I judged would be pretty unpopular by most.

I listed 5 locations, all in the upper South. Not a good move strategically, but I have family obligations that limit my ability/willingness to move.

knowing that my score wasn't going to be near the top of the list, I selected all locations on my application.

Won't help me though with my score.

I'm Mr. Median at the present, 69.26. I left it wide open, eliminating four or five locations --inner city LA and NY + DC.

I also listed I could and would go anywhere. Yet with a score of 61.53, don't think that will help very much.

Five cities, two in the midwest and three in the west. If I could do it over I would add more. And that is why I advise everyone to be more inclusive than exclusive in the selection process. Start off by thinking yes to all locations and then eliminate the ones that you absolutely can't make fit. A candidate can always say no when asked by ODAR, but cannot say yes to a city that wasn't selected. With your score, if you had selected 15 or 20 of the less competitive locations, you would have had an excellent chance of coming aboard for the first class. For example, the odds of being selected for Middlesboro, Kentucky or Florence, Alabama are much greater than being selected for NYC or the DC area. It's best to play the odds and get on board, and then work on a transfer elsewhere if you end up disliking the first location. Some hold out for one or two locations, and never get an offer. Hopefully something will open up for you, and you can take the plunge. Good luck. Pix.

Since I have joined this board, and even the older board, I have learned so much more about ODAR and the cities where they have offices. As one example, I never considered any of the Kentucky offices and in retrospect should have listed all of them. There was such a press to get the application in before it closed that I focused on the application and not on the cities.
