DFN, in two+ years I have never known PF to "attack" those who disagree with him. If by "attack" you mean PF's ability to challenge assumptions and demand proofs, selah.
I suggest that you review PF's postings over the last two+ years; you will find that the opposite has usually been the case.

Here are some of PF's recent postings, just within the last couple of weeks: "My, my someone got up on the wrong side of her broom this morning. As for me, I'll never engage in dialogue with a weaker mind. As Mark Twain eloquently noted: 'Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.'" "And let's not get our panties in a bunch, nonamouse! Goodness, who hired the school marm?" "Speaking of blind loyalty to the agency, welcome back Val! No discussion here would be complete without your full-throated defense of a warped, unlawful system that landed you an ALJ slot!" Other discussion boards I visit don't allow these types of personal attacks and I fail to see how they add to the discussion here.

Deminimis, I agree with your post. Sometimes these posts deteriorate into a place where professionals are not conducting intelligent discussions. It personally frustrates me and limits my active participation. I imagine I am not alone.

Patriots fan said: "I post valuable information here for people who care about being an ALJ and want to understand the process from someone who has been through it." I agree with that. I was on this board a lot in 2007, then missed the 2008 application, and now applied in November, so am on quite a bit again. I think that Patriots fan has posted a lot of very helpful information. In the last two and a half years, there have been several situations where posters got into arguments and said negative things. I hope that we're not going down that road again.

Thank you. Morgulord and private attorney will always come to patriotsfan's defense. Everyone else can see the truth. Really? Everyone else, huh? Like who? Listen, I'll settle this whole thing the democratic way. I am putting up a poll, and if the majority vote to have me resign, I'll be happy to do so. I wouldn't vote for you to resign, but you ought to ratchet back the hostility a few notches. "Wimps and losers"? Name calling is not "adversarial discourse." Judges don't display this kind of behavior.

Also, FYI, its de minimus, which is two words, from the latin de minimis non curat lex, or in English "the law cares not for small things." Thanks for educating me. I believe "patriots fan" is two words, also, isn't it?

I am relatively new here, and I find that the people who post here have great info to offer, specifically including those who are currently at each other's throats, but I am not a big fan of the name calling. I don't have thin skin. I have litigation experience and I have agency experience and I applied in November. Although I love a healthy debate, IMHO, aggressive adversarial discussion need not be reduced to name calling. Just my two cents worth. I'll keep filtering through the bickering though to get to the good stuff because the good stuff is worth it. And pf, I hope I am lucky enough to have an SI this spring even if it is with you! :-)

Wow.
I come home early from a holiday party because I'm feeling sick. Feeling sorry for myself, I log on and find this delightfully entertaining battle royale while the administrator is away!
All nastiness aside, I would say the big question, if there is a January cert, is WHEN in January? The new hires, for purposes of transferring, are eligible as of January 12...

I just want to say that I am a big Patriots' Fan fan. I find him entertaining, well-read, and most of all informative. Whenever he posts something I always read it because I know it will be helpful, or at the very least, amusing.
On another subject, PF, do you know if the names of the October hires has been posted. If so, how can I get the list? Thanks.

Man am I glad I got all that in before ALJD shuts down this thread! Now that the "mute" function has been installed (click on the icon under a poster's name to whiteout their posts), I no longer feel the urge to intervene in routine family spats. If things REALLY get out of hand like a Real Internet Flame War, then I will do what needs to be done to clean things up (see Youtube music video example below, but DO NOT go there if you are at work due to the horrible languages in it - it's like a Southpark episode): So everyone have fun this holiday and try to keep your powder dry.

You open it up, take a sip and whew, the tannins, fruit and dirt claw at your throat! But then you let out some gas, take a bite of cheese, let it breath and whallah, a stellar experience. The six star posters are just that. I was one until I self-immolated in a snit fit... Get your stars, incur your scars and verbalize on!

Of course I have been known to occasionally throw gasoline on a fire. I guess old habits die hard. In the future I will refrain from taking the bait as best as I possibly can. My parents raised me to defend myself, not to cower when attacked, but perhaps I can dial it back a bit for the greater good. Amen, my friend. Let's hope the goose is also good for the gander.

Yeah, let's get this thread back on track.

Any further info on another hiring before the "newbies" are processed in 6-8 months? This is the latest hearsay that came my way last week: "There is likely to be a cert in January to hire 50 ALJs in April, 2010. This cert will be from the existing register. Following the issuance of the January cert ODAR will commence the hiring process for those on the cert, interviews, reference checks etc. Additional certs will be requested after OPM completes updating the register. Those hires will likely take place in August, give or take a month and depending somewhat on OPM and when they get the register updated." Of course, like everything else that goes on in the Puzzle Palace, we won't know this is a go until they start calling for interviews. Hope this helps. Good luck to all of you and happy holidays. Just trying to get this thread back on track. I'm wondering if anyone knows which offices are clearing out space in preparation for the possible next small round of hiring. It was my impression that ODAR had pretty much maxed out office space in older offices during the last round of hiring

In response to a previous posting, I want to know if anyone has heard (no wild speculation!!!) of any selections for Jan-Feb; and when (if, at all) a realistic reporting date would occur?

A little bird told me the following:
"I believe that a cert was requested this week for a class to start on April 11. Don"t know how soon OPM will act on the request or whether Foster's departure will affect it (don"t think so). Those on the cert will probably be getting a notice for interviews in the next month. week? Transfer offers for the vacant offices will likely go out soon."
I make no guarantee as to its accuracy. Like all water cooler rumors, nothing is certain until the interview invites start going out. When it does, someone will probably post it here within minutes, so we'll all know when it happens.
Anyway, good luck to the candidates and I'm going to find my glass of red wine now. ;D

Those who make the cert should get an e-mail to that effect on or about Tuesday, January 26, 2010.
