No one mentioned it yet, so I'll just note that OCALJ's office solicited applications from ALJ who are interested to be instructors to train the upcoming class(es) on 1/4/10. Application deadline is 1/15/10, so it looks like we're moving forward slowly but surely.

Anyone know the answer to this question. I recently added to my geographic availability list. Will the new cert (January 2010 if it occurs) use the old list of geographic availability or the new one when determining if I make the cert?

Your new geographic availability list will be used for all future certs, including the one expected to come out this month.

I think that may have actually been a solicitation for decision writer training instructors.

Scratch my previous post. Apparently a solicitation did go out last week for ALJ training.

Decision writer instructors were solicited in December. I haven't seen another solicitation since. But I also haven't heard of an ALJ who has received the solicitation workdrone mentioned. The 'drone has been very reliable, so I'm a little confused.

Word has it that at least a couple of transfer offers have been extended. The process is indeed moving along slowly but surely.

Does anyone have a guess, idea, crystal ball that can tell us what geographic locations might be part of the January 2010 hiring?

Does anyone have a guess, idea, crystal ball that can tell us what geographic locations might be part of the January 2010 hiring? If a hearing office has a space that meets the requirements of an ALJ office, they are going to fill it, regardless of staffing, service area needs, or anything else.

Does anyone have a guess, idea, crystal ball that can tell us what geographic locations might be part of the January 2010 hiring? We went through this in '08 and '09. People try to crystal ball and even believe they have the inside track on THE office of their dreams. I'm sorry to tell you, but it rarely works out that way unless you personally know the hirer(s) at OCALJ in the Puzzle Palace. As the other posts by the ALJs have told you (and 'drone and Pixie are amongst the best for straight poop), the transfers have dibs. Some places have years old holding patterns, like some cosmic airport (movie line someone!). The point is--follow jerseymom's tale. You want the job? HOW BAD? 134 city bad? Alot of people never get to a cert because they don't have the GAL choices... I'll betcha of all the some odd 1300 ALJs, 95% were orphans when they started and most still are, including the vast majority of the ones I know.

Glad I'm not the only one who was puzzled by that. Perhaps PA could clarify . . . ?

just to reiterate what others have said, there is no way to know what offices might be involved in the next round of hiring. the process will go like this-
the agency will determine where there are open ALJ offices
the agency will offer transfers to existing ALJ's per the CBA
once those offers are accepted/rejected, the agency will redetermine where there are now open offices and fill them with new hires irrespective of whether the caseloads in those offices really need an additional judge or not
My geographic availability was limited to only one office and I was only fortunate enough to be hired because another ALJ transferred out and opened up an office. it can be an utterly random process

It means that southeastalj is one of the very, very few I've heard of who got what he wanted-home or if not, then his first and only choice. I reiterate, orphan means you are sent to a place that is not your home, but it was on your GAL. Most Judges take years and years to get home or more likely, closer.

They are making transfer offers right now. I know, because I received one. So did a friend.
