Are we expecting offers to come by call or by email? Or do we really just have no idea at this point? ;D

Hi Topher. All indications seem to be that offers will be made via a phone call. Apparently, the last few classes were all called (not e-mailed re: the initial offer).
On a related matter, I wonder if there is a follow-up e-mail confirming the offer/acceptance?
Thanks for starting this thread. :-)

Hi ladyatlaw. Had to do something. The silence was deafening! Thanks for the response.

I was in the class that reported in July 2009. I received the offer by phone, from Bob Gehlken (Human Resources specialist), and accepted it when it was offered. Subsequent communications ("we are pleased that you have accepted..." letters, as well as an official "acceptance of appointment" form and other materials) were sent by regular mail.

Did you get the call on your cell phone or other number?

I would imagine they use the number that we gave as our preferred contact when we sent back the paperwork they emailed us.

I'm expecting either a telegraph or smoke signals.... or perhaps a radio message that requires the use of a Little Orphan Annie decoder wheel.
*OK... back to keeping my fingers tightly crossed with my cell phone nearby*

I thought I was just being logical, as that's the number they used to schedule my interview. But then, logic and this whole process are relative strangers. Good luck, all!

Good luck, all! I have no reason to think that they won't use that number. I just was amused by the assumption that they would do something that logical as a matter of course. I vaguely recall a story or two of people surprised that SSA had called their seldom-used home lines, or left a message at work, rather than call the listed preferred number.

I was shocked during the travel voucher reimbursement process (I am a federal employee, but not ODAR) that they used my work email to contact me. I don't think I EVER provided that. So, you never know what might happen.

I know they won't use my work email, as I didn't give it to them... it's internal only, and I'm not a fed employee. That said, propmaster is right... will be checking voicemail on ALL the phone numbers, just in case.

Bob called me on a Thursday on my cell phone while my wife and I were at the beach. This was for the September 09 hires. It has changed our lives, some good some bad. Glad I did it, but there is a major change from private practice to this job. Be sure you want it and can handle a move with the uprooting and all that it comes with.

Calls started on: April 9, 2010 (a Friday) May 29, 2009 (a Friday) February 28, 2008 (a Thursday) Keep in mind that they only have a few folks making the calls. The May 2009 group had just a handful of offers made that Friday and after a miserable weekend, offers dribbled out through to the next Friday or Saturday. Hang in there.

Just a thought: consider using call forwarding and checking caller id.
Personally, I thought about using call forwarding on my home phone since I don't use it as much. But then, I've been getting A LOT of calls every day from candidates and supporters of candidates asking me to vote for someone. So I will likely just keep checking all phone lines and caller ids.
I also would hate getting the call on my cell while I'm at work since my cell doesn't get good reception in our building. A dropped call would not be good!

Do nonselectees get a call? a letter? Does it come much later or close in time to when selectees are notified?

On the last hire, someone posted about an email rejection letter he got about ten days after offers went out. This is a bigger hire, it might take longer to get those out. I can't imagine them calling to say no. Email makes more sense.
