Rog said: "Just three times. It's got to be nigh on ten for me!" This one is it - this is your cert. In training, you'll be sitting next to some guy making charts, and you'll say "Propmaster, I presume."

In trying to determine when offers will go out, the training start date would be helpful. In the past, didn't they send some type of solicitation out for trainers? Some have speculated that the next group would start on 10/11 with training starting on 10/24. Is this possible?

I can't stand the silence.
To echo allrise, has anyone heard about scheduled training dates? They must have at least started to plan the training by now. Do we know if references are still being checked or if deliberation has started?

Do we know if references are still being checked or if deliberation has started? This brings to mind one of my favorite sequences in the TV series, Kung Fu: Young Caine: You cannot see. Master Po: You think I cannot see? Young Caine: Of all things, to live in darkness must be worst. Master Po: Fear is the only darkness. and later Master Po: [after easily defeating the boy in combat] Ha, ha, never assume because a man has no eyes he cannot see. Close your eyes. What do you hear? Young Caine: I hear the water, I hear the birds. Master Po: Do you hear your own heartbeat? Young Caine: No. Master Po: Do you hear the grasshopper that is at your feet? Young Caine: [looking down and seeing the insect] Old man, how is it that you hear these things? Master Po: Young man, how is it that you do not? Breathe in. ... Breathe out ... Grasshopper. ht

There has been very little Transfer List activity so far because the Agency is still trying to determine how many of the planned new offices will be opened and which ones they will be. This will depend on the FY 2012 budget or at least the Continuing Resolution that we will live under until the budget battle has been fought.
According to Mr. Hall's blogsite, the CR will reduce SSA's appropriation by 1.409%; however, proposed budget could cut SSA's appropriation by approximately 15%. A cut this size may force SSA to close offices one day per week or lay off thousands.
The fight over the 2012 budget will make the fight over the 2011 budget and the fight over the debt ceiling look like a sack race at a church picnic.
So what happens? I am no expert on federal personnel law but I believe that if SSA made offers and they were accepted, the offers could nevertheless be revoked anytime before an individual is sworn in as an ALJ.
I believe that SSA will sit on the offers until the budget situation becomes more definite. Sit back and relax, it may be awhile before offers are made.
Oh, and by the way, do not think of yourself as a hostage in the budget battle. The hostages are those people whose access to Social Security benefits is made more difficult. We are merely collateral damage.

Although I agree there are all sorts of budget issues in the future, absolutely nothing has changed on the budget front since the August 20th notification of the cert. If they wait until the budget situation becomes more definite, they may have to wait at least another year. They continued the ALJ hiring process through the Spring 2011 continuing resolution fight and debt limit fight. I can't imagine they will wait now for the Democrats and Republicans to make peace.

I was called last night by a former supervisor. She was called Friday and questioned for an hour. She indicated they told her that they had to have all the information in to headquarters yesterday. Just wanted to pass this along.

Oh, and I don't know if this makes a difference, but she was not listed as a reference. She was a former supervisor who has been on all of my information from the very beginning.

If she's part of your last ten years' work history on the form, and is listed as your supervisor, then she's a reference just like the ones in the "reference" section. Back in 2010, when we had to list every job since we'd pass the bar, all my former supervisors who could still be reached, except for one, was called.

Yes, they were part of my work history, and I figured it was just the yearly check of references.
I just found it interesting that the deadline to get information in to headquarters was this Monday. I cannot see offers going out this week if headquarters is just getting the reference information this Monday. Just thought I'd pass information along for those wondering about calls this week. I am thinking ... not. However, I have no inside information, no connections and no contacts ... so what do I know! ha ha ha ;D

If that's true, I would not see offers coming before next week, if then. It's interesting to me that the reference checking has gone on this long... the list is not that big, and they did not check all the potential references on everyone, either..

Although I usually prepare a centralized list of board members who are appointed as judges, I will not be available at the end of this week. Therefore, if anyone else wants to do it, and offers are made, please feel free.

From a reliable source: "The offers will be in very late September. Since the last pay period ends in early October I suppose the offers could extend into the first week of October but I don't know how that FY thingy works." "Probably looking at less than 25 offers, but that number is flexible and could change like it did last time." Good luck to everyone!

There used to be a column in the Wall Street Journal entitled "Heard on the street" which contained all sorts of rumors about the economy. Here is my version of "Heard around ODAR/SSA". There are over 100 empty ALJ offices. There will be 35 hires from the new August cert. Transfers offers have not all been made. Not all ALJ offices will be filled. Offers will be made before September 30, 2011. The new class will start sometime in October. This will be the last cert from the current register. A very high number of ALJs will retire in 2011 many of which will wait until December 31. NOW TAKE YOUR PICK, MULTIPLE CHOICE. A. ALL OF THE ABOVE IS TRUE B. SOME OF THE ABOVE IS TRUE C. NONE OF THE ABOVE IS TRUE. D. ALL OF THE ABOVE IS JUST STUFF I MADE UP.
Well, at least some of this has come true. There have been 89 ALJs leave ODAR with more to come before January 1, 2012. Rumor is rampant that offers will be made by this Friday but that there won't be very many. Given the budget situation the new class may start after October. I am posting my original so you can have some fun making fun of me.

I am posting my original so you can have some fun making fun of me. Thanks to our typically reliable sources, here are some fuel for the fire : "Selections have been made. Offers soon. Likely number of offers are between 15 - 25, don't know for sure. Report date delayed until next calendar year." That's all the rumors I got. Good luck to all the candidates!
