(after 4 years on the board). Some of us take longer than others. ht

I had heard that interview panels had been set up for the last week in September. Confusion reigns again. Perhaps there will be another cert. with another round of interviews? Who knows.

I doubt that there are any more cert lists coming. There may be interview scheduling issues/ changes, but no more certs.

They are checking references so interviews and selections can't be far behind.

a friend was at a training where he said the chief alj said there would be more hiring this calendar year. Didn't think she was referring to the August cert but another one. Being that they were able to get something like 100 candidates for the August cert with scores over 65, I don't think the register is as slim as some think. I also would guess, with no inside knowledge, that it would take opm years to devise a new test. How long did it take after the Azdell litigation?

I' m not expecting that much change in the application process, and we don't know how long any potential changes have been in process. I'm still voting that this is the end for this calendar year. We will learn soon enough whether the register will expire.

I agree with O 53. I don't think the August cert folks will report until Oct or maybe even November.

Reliable source from outside SSA tells me the process of re-writing the exam is likely to take several years, as in the past. As a result, the current register is likely to be around a long time, since if it were scrapped OPM has no new exam to rebuild it with. At least this is my meager understanding of that process.

I'll sail with jibrtrimmer. I think it's 2013 until we see a new exam. In between, we also rans and lesser rans will be the pool they draw from. I find it interesting that members of the "ALJ investigating committee" are now calling references of this black spot holder. Not contractors, someone from the SSA, not any reference, but those references who have SSA experience...it may be a ploy or it may be a reconsieration of the black spot. For the record, I'm all investigated out. I confess to being an impartial judge when my baseball teams, the Yanks and Phillies play. Can I be hired now that my secrets are out in the open?

I think that Jibtrimmer's source may be overshooting the mark. The last exam was difference but most did not notice. The structured interview was completely changed by OPM in response to a group of "subject matter experts" who met and hashed out the change. The upcoming change seems to be a bit more radical but I don't see it taking "years". But, then I have to wonder if my source is any more reliable than Jibtrimmer's.

There is one quirk to throw into the mix. Some 10 pt. pref. eligible vets. have a right to have their apps. processed fiarly quickly under most normal circumstances, so OPM won't be able to shut down the exam process for years.

Any new intel/gossip/rumblings about interview dates, or, perhaps even more important, requests to participate in training classes (which will help figure out the start date, at least!)?

Any new intel/gossip/rumblings about interview dates, or, perhaps even more important, requests to participate in training classes (which will help figure out the start date, at least!)? I know someone mentioned interviews the last week of September, but when I interviewed in August, I asked the person coordinating if there were any other dates available for the interview and she said no.

From a reliable source: "The offers will be in very late September. Since the last pay period ends in early October I suppose the offers could extend into the first week of October but I don't know how that FY thingy works." "Probably looking at less than 25 offers, but that number is flexible and could change like it did last time." Good luck to everyone!

We are approaching the Ides of September right now, so two more weeks is not too long to wait. However, offers the week of the 26th-30th would imply a report date of 23 October, with the class starting 7 November and ending 2 December. Two federal holidays, Veterans' Day (11/11/11) and Thanksgiving (11/24/1) would fall during the class. If this is the case, do not plan on getting off the day after Thanksgiving and making it a four-day weekend.
If offers come the week of the 19th-23d, the report date could be one pay period earlier and hatchlings would report 11 October. The class would start 24 October and end 18 November. The only federal holiday would be Veterans' Day.
Based on the logistical problems of two holidays versus one holiday during orientation, I believe SSA will shoot for the earlier orientation. This would point to offers next week, or even at the end of this week.
Just one old man's opinion...

I think that morgullord's logic makes sense... especially considering that it might be hard for SSA to find ALJs willing to train the new class during the week of Thanksgiving.
It will be interesting to see whether offers go out prior to when the new ALJs that reported in June are eligible to transfer, which I think will be sometime this week.
