To alleviate any fears regarding reference checks, I wanted to add to the discussion that both myself and a colleague had our references called in "fits and starts" this time around. Mine took a long time to get going (or so it seemed), and there's been a cluster of calls one day then another one a few days later. My colleague had a two week gap in between clusters of calls. I think they are still calling references, as I had at least one called this week, and I have at least one more that has not received a call. I've had "repeat" references that got calls again this time, and at least one "repeat" that did not (at least not yet). So, in short, there appears to be no "normal" pattern this time around.

No interview for me yet; not sure if they have done interviews for anybody yet. From what I heard, the class is still scheduled for end of July 2013 (new class for new ALJ hires).

I agree. plus I have an impression that the majority have been interviewed so if there are not many left it could go close to the wire.

One of my references was just called last week; which is odd because some of the other references I listed were called 3 to 4 weeks ago. No particular way of telling what order they are being called in either. As I mentioned earlier, the class in Falls Church is tentatively set for last week of July. I am not an insider though, so am not certain of this.

One can never predict the opaque minds of OPM-however, I would rest easy in that to my knowledge they have not done so before. I just think that there are not many left to interview and that they think they can get it done quickly.

I believe it was Bob G who provided the number. This is on another thread, if my memory serves. I have another question: does anyone know if the funding is in place to do this hire in the near future?

I have reliable info that funding for current hiring still has not been secured, as of last week. Also that SSA is trying hard to get authorization. This may explain why no interviews have yet been scheduled.

First real indication will be scheduling interviews for those "new" candidates.

First real indication will be scheduling interviews for those "new" candidates. Will SSA interview candidates that have no possibility of reaching a cutoff score, or candidates that even with the maximum number of points from the interview cannot reach the top candidates?

I think if you are on the certificate and haven't been interviewed previously, you will be interviewed. But I've no inside info so who's to say.

If the rules require them to interview everyone on the cert, then they may have to, even if they have dumped the register on this cert and it has far more names on it than they actually need (we've heard that, no way to confirm). An interesting situation.

No calls to my references. Does that mean I'm out of the running? Same references called in past but over a year ago

An interesting situation. Perhaps the abandonment of the Rule of Three has changed this... Who knows? That shouldn't change the requirement of interviewing everyone on a a cert someone else mentioned earlier, which is likely a separate rule.

How many of us on the 3/13cert have not been interviewed? I bet it is a very small number. For some of us this is our second or third cert.

any rumblings of a supplemental cert? seems unlikely, but thought i would ask. Given all the difficulties with the current one, I would seriously doubt it. There's a lot of cities on this cert, and reportedly a lot of people to pick from to give SSA some flexibility to fill what needs to be filled most in thee cities on the list. "Supplemental" certs are not that common. I would doubt there will be another cert before the new register, period, but if there is, it would stand on its own.

At this point, it seems like there might not be any hiring off of this cert. None of has heard a peep about interviews, etc. and the time is quickly slipping away if they want to have a late July training class. I was hoping that there might be a slim possibility of finally being hired and thus avoiding having to fly to D.C. twice for testing for the new register(for a second time).

I don't think it was ever actually confirmed that new ALJ training was scheduled for July. If it ever was contemplated at some point, it's easy to cancel in the early stages of planning. I would not assume there will be no hiring just based on the approaching dates for this rumored training class.
