I finished this "experience" last week. I agree with another poster, I thought the SJT had multiple "correct" choices and it was tough to select just one. On the video scenarios, the videos would either start/stop repeatedly or take their sweet time loading--while the clock was ticking. I finished with time to spare, but it was nerve-wracking. The writing sample was a piece of cake. The Experience Assessment? Well, that's where I think I got tripped up. I emphasized my actual trial experience at two previous employers, and had to keep going back and checking the voluminous (so I thought) instructions to make sure I was adhering to the directions. Completely forgot to include my 4+ years of SSA experience writing decisions. Oh well, if I goofed there's certainly nothing I can do about it now. I also thought it was a bit redundant: why are you asking me for details on my experience, when I wouldn't be taking the online exam at all if I hadn't already provided said details?? Hey, maybe it's just me. Methinks I'm getting too old for such ridiculousness.

What was the point of making applicants type their experience into that tiny text box that showed no more than four or five lines of text at one time? My answer was fairly long and I had to zoom the browser view up to 300% to proof-read what I had typed. I also wonder why they thought it was important to block cutting-and-pasting. I could have typed the answer in a word processor, spell-checked, and pasted it into the box in less than half the time I spent fiddling with that annoying web page. I suspect they were testing something besides your experience -- they already had that information. Typing speed? Ability to follow inscrutable instructions?

They are testing the ability to put up with nitpicky, aggravating and incomprehensible rules -a skill that is truly useful when working for the government.
So Perry let introduce you to my new invention.... The Paranoianater. It will make everyone on the tri state area question every answer they give to any question.

As to the cutting and pasting, they wanted you to do your own proofreading, and not spell and grammar check it in some other document and move it over. I, too, found the little box annoying, but I managed.

I was able to cut and paste into the third part - the experience assessment. I typed up everything in word and then pasted it into the box. I then scrolled through it to make sure everything was there and then recorded the answer. I know you could not cut and paste into the 2nd part because it was timed, but the third part did not block cut and paste.

Same here--I actually read the instructions and then closed my browser and worked on my answer on word. Spelled checked it and proofed it. Then like most on here I cut and pasted it. spot checked to make sure everything had copied and submitted it. Nothing said that you could not cut and paste, the only portion of the test where the instructions clearly said pasting had been disabled was on the timed essay.

It was part 1, 2 where you could not cut and paste. I copied my answer and put it in a W document in the event there was a technical problem at the end. And you could stretch the small box out to a big box making it easier to use.

Someone please assuage my anxiety: 1) On the Essay, what happens when it times out? Because I thought I had a few minutes left, then it just took me to the "certify your answer" screen. No idea if it saved what I had. I finished it and was beginning my final proof read when it went to the next screen, and I could not get back to it to see what happened. I am assuming a time out. 2) On the experience assessment. I did a great job on the text box. So great, in fact, that I can't remember if I checked the d**n button. Please tell me it will not let you complete this portion without checking at least one of the boxes for your degree of experience. I guess none of this matters since what's done is done, but, you know how it goes. Blugh. At least it's over! I had a similar problem. The stupid survey popped up before I could submit/confirm my answer. Once I finally got it to upoad completly, I forgot to check the buttons, I emailed the helpdesk but never heard anything. I am hoping their was a default of somesort that prevented you from submitting the assessment. The SJT would not let you go to the next question if you forgot to click on an answer.

Holy cow! If I'd known that, I would have been finished in a fourth of the time! Because of the instructions prohibiting pasting on the writing sample, I assumed (ass-u-me) that you could not paste into the experience assessment. I did not try to see whether it would work. I had the whole answer prepared beforehand and then painstakingly re-typed and proofed every single word into the little box. Aaargh!

I saw those and put it aside for a day just to recover! Although, once I sat down and parsed them out, it helped a lot in getting exactly what they wanted! At least I hope that was the case!

I think it was safer to NOT cut and paste because we do not know what type of word processor the assessment used. Cutting and pasting from one format to another could corrupt the page. It could end up looking like: I w<as aPr./cu<tor \\ a,.>>

i filled out the latest opm 3 part on-line application that was posted thru usajobs. the deadline to complete the 3 parts was midnite, on may 10. i paused after i completed the 2d part on thursday night and was scheduled to finish the application (experience assessment) friday morning. when i clicked on the remaining segment, a survey appeared on how i liked the testing process. i answered the survey and then was told that my application was deemed complete, and was submitted. but, i never got the opportunity to complete the experience assessment. all of my inquiries have been referred to others. i am now being advised to go to a certain opm site that re-routes me to the site that refers me to it. does anyone have any telephone # that i can call to address the malfunctioning web-site?

Natnal, check out some of the other threads on this boards - several of them discuss similar technical issues, although I think this is the first I've heard of this error. Bizarre. I don't think there is a telephone number, you are pretty much limited to e-mail communications. Others have had mixed success there, with some getting immediate responses and others having to wait days and weeks. Best of luck to you!
