My admission notice email is lacking in detail regarding what we can or cannot bring with us. Can we bring water/beverages with us? Snacks? Paper and pencil? Backpack?
I am less than one week out (8/5) and I am trying to quell the nerves a little - too much cramming with logic game books and not enough time...

If I remember correctly, we had to leave backpack/brief cases in another room. They supplied paper/pencils and I don't think we were allowed to bring in any water/beverages or snacks (unless there's an accomodation issue). Then, it has been a while, so I might not be remembering exactly correct on the water and backpacks.

There were vending machines to buy drinks, snacks, I can't say for sure you can walk in with your own, but I don't see why not, within reason (don't walk in with a McDonald's breakfast). I seem to recall buying some water and granola bars. I think you had to keep the water off the desk. I don't think anyone had any extra paper beyond the paper the question was written on. I think I used my own pen, but it's been three years, really don't remember. The above poster may be right about the backpack. I didn't consider bringing a backpack or briefcase, so I didn't pay any attention.

I hope we can at least bring some water, when I am nervous I tend to drink a lot (which of course has other unfortunate side effects). I usually finish off the entire water carafe during most of my half day trial/argument sessions in court. It is a well known quirk of mine and the local federal court clerk jokingly puts out two carafes when I have a full day scheduled.
I think I will bring a couple of water bottles and protein bars (as well as quarters for the machine) and hope for the best.

Is there a cafeteria we can use in the OPM building between our tests? Does anyone know? In that we only have an hour of time in-between tests we may have to use their cafeteria if one exists.

That's my question exactly. It doesn't seem like there will be enough time to actually eat lunch. By the time I finish the first part I'm sure I will be ravenous. Since my husband is going to DC I thought maybe I could have him pick something up for me and meet me there, but that's not exactly ideal.

Otherwise, who know what will happen. However, if you eat too much for breakfast it could make you slightly tired as the morning wears on. Usually federal building cafeterias are only for the use of federal employees, however they might allow an exception for non-employees, if we have a pass to be in the building for the day. I am sure they might say something on the day of the testing. If not, maybe we can ask some of those first test takers when they return from D.C.

There is a Subway about a block away from OPM. 1959 E Street.

Thanks gaiden, but realize you only have one hour for lunch total and if it is around noon and you have to walk there and wait in a line because of a lunch crowd at that time, you may really be pushing it to be back in time for the start of the LBMT, especially since you will have to go through security again to enter the building.

That was my concern as well Moopigsdad, I am considering packing a lunch and bringing a backpack to carry everything.

That was my concern as well Moopigsdad, I am considering packing a lunch and bringing a backpack to carry everything. I'd bring a plastic shopping bag if you feel the need to pack your own sandwich, etc. You can buy the water there. They may not let you keep the backpack with you, as previously noted.

Every federal building I've been in (and I've been in a lot) didn't limit who could use the caffeteria. If there is a caffeteria in the building, I don't think they'll turn anyone away.

U could always finish the test early and have extra time for lunch. lol
Funky has a history of butterflies on big days. I have never once eaten lunch during the recess of a trial. maybe a dramamine and some water. I imagine test day will have the same effect on my digestive situation.
Also, always been a quick test taker. I was joking above but I finished each section of the bar with ample time to spare, lsat and law school exams too. did the sjt in half the allotted time.
If you finish early can you leave or do you have to sit there?

I didn't finish the sjt that fast, but I had some time to spare when I completed it. You evidently are a great test-taker. I do well in finishing tests with time to spare, but nothing like you just posted. I am impressed with that ability.

If you finish early can you leave or do you have to sit there? Excellent question. I typically finish tests well in advance of the time allotted. I like to think I am succinct Mrs. Gaidin likes to say its because I don't know very much.

My kid scores out of the ball park on tests but his grades suck. So, what are you trying to tell us aljhopeful2? Tests don't really measure one's ability in the real world? Your kid is easily bored by the normal routine things in school leading to lesser grades and only tests excite your kid to do better?

No genius. just always been a big believer in trusting your initial reaction to a question, not obsessing over it once answered and not lingering if I know I don't know. I remember finishing the sjt and lookin at the elapsed time and thinking "well, I fubar that one." but I had the same thought after leaving the bar exam way before anyone else. that turned out ok. I too have the good testing but have to work for grades thing.

Are ear plugs permitted? I found them helpful when I was taking the bar.
