Gaidin: Here is the word doc with the region 5 info for your spreadsheet. Thanks for coordinating and working on all of this! Between this and the work done by Baglady I should be ready to roll a final product out later tonight. Thanks for the help.

I can't do montgomery. Heard a song once that said the ghost of hank sr roamed there. Funky doesn't do ghosts. Considering striking memphis for the same reason, but I might make an exception to the ghost rule for Elvis. Don't know how to break this to you, funk-meister, but I was in a newsstand today and picked up the most recent edition of The Ghostbuster Times. Right there on page 1, above the fold, was a long article about the 170+ cities and towns in the USofA that have creepily s-e-r-i-o-u-s ghost infestations. And oddly enough, the article mentioned a spooky coincidence -- those cities and towns are the exact same cities and towns listed on the OPM website for ALJs. Not to worry, though, the article quoted Professor Casper, who has a PhD in Supernatural Studies and is the go-to expert on all things ghostly, and Prof. Casper said any city or town other than those 170+ cities and towns has been determined to be 100% spirit-free. Guaranteed-o, you-can-take-it-to-the-bank, beyond-a-reasonable-doubt spirit-free. I know this isn't good news for you funky, but I thought you'd want to know, just so you can make a fully informed decision. But, then, there is Elvis.

Damn. guess I'm gonna have to come to terms with my fear.
I can do it. It only took 2 years for me to watch TV again after accidently seeing part of "Poltergeist" when I was 16.
At the pace of this process, I will have plenty of time to work thru my issues before I have to narrow my cert.

Memphis should still be in play -- Elvis lives...he's just incognito.

Memphis should still be in play -- Elvis lives...he's just incognito. According to my sources (okay, admittedly it's the Sookie Stackhouse book series - "True Blood" is based on them), Elvis is actually a vampire in Louisiana. Funk, is it just ghosts or do vampires, The Walking Dead, and other supes enter into the calculus? Pretty sure some nasty zombies have taken over, at a minimum, the southeast...

Spoiler alert, in case you'd want to read the books -- they turned him at the last possible moment before he would die (chubby Vegas version) and he's sort of messed up. He goes by "Bubba." He doesn't like that other name, but he still sings sometimes.

First attempt at a crowd sourced swag on odar cert cities. As noted, i started with my very wild guess "Funky's official WAG on cert cities." I requested folks post or pm me any intel they had about cities that definitely wont have a vacancy and should be removed and cities that have vacancies and could be on the list that should make this list. Here is the result so far, keep the info coming:
R1: None
R2: Buffalo, South Jersey and PR (counted as 1 city for my purposes)
R3: Charleston WV, Huntington WV, Johnstown PA and Seven Fields PA
R4: Florence AL, Greenville SC, Hattiesburg MS, Jackson MS, Paducah KY, Lexington KY, Louisville KY, Macon Ga, Memphis, Middlesboro KY, Tupelo MS, Montgomey AL, Tampa And Covington GA
R5: Akron, Dayton, Detroit, Flint, Livonia, Mt Pleasant, Peoria, Toledo, Valpraiso, Fort Wayne and Evansville
R6: Alexandria LA, Houston North, Metarie, Shreveport, New Orleans
R7: Creve Coeur, Springfield MO and Witchita
R8: Fargo, Rapid City and Sioux Falls
R9: Fresno and Phoenix
R10: None
Each city that's been removed was done so due to reports from you guys except for 1, Atlanta North. I removed it after hearing the other day that they plan to move it from its current location soon. I'd assume they won't hire for there till they know what space they have at the new location. So, most likley a second cert city.
the only additions have been Witchita (due to discussion in another thread, Tampa and Phoenix (both due to highly credible reports that they have worked the transfer list and still have multiple vacancies at each.
The current total is 45 cities.

R6: Alexandria LA, Houston North, Metarie, Shreveport, New Orleans Lots of supernatural activity in Shreveport and New Orleans, Funk. I wish I had taken geography so I wouldn't have to look up some cities when they are mentioned, but the teacher was a letch.

No doubt nawlins is spooky. But, there I'd be less scared of ghosts and more scared of becoming one way to early myself

Now that is been cleared up that newbies can go to nhc, I suppose at least St Louis should also be added to the crowdsourced list. My bad.

Funky I am 95% sure that Flint is out in Region 5 due to working of the transfer list and movement in and nobody leaving out. I leave it up to you as to whether to list it or remove it. I am pretty sure it won't be on the first cert.

One more caveat:
This list has not been modified by any of the current transfer list data that Gaidan and others have done an excellent job gathering.
I started to go thru those lists and remove/add accordingly. But, I felt that was not really in the spirit of the crowdsource idea. As the reports on Tampa and Phoenix show, sometimes a city can have tons of folks on the list, but no takers when transfers are offered.
I'd rather keep this to hard info from people that know one way or another about a specific office's current staffing.

By the way funky, I think your list is very close to being right on in terms of cities on the first cert (or two). Several of those cities have multiple openings and are likely to hire two or more newbie ALJs.

Interesting list. I suspect that unless you have a truly wide-open, 179-city GAL, or had the prescience to keep crapland cities, any narrowing of an applicant's GAL ate into this list in a big way. The city-by-city certs may need to be relatively deep to provide for all these appointments. Edit: Thanks for the work Funky, very helpful!

It is very rare in the last few years of certs for highly desired locations to allow newbies any positions. It has happened, but not very often at all. It is usually the lesser desired locations that end up with openings for newbies. It is just part of the process and hopefully those seeking other locations once hired will be able to transfer at some point in the future.

I heard it was really bad so I didn't buy it but I' thinking it couldn't be much worse than following some of these threads. Do you recommend it?
