Welcome to the Board Jaftrey. I like your analysis although I think your expected hires by SSA are a little high.

I am a new member. My impression of the last few days' worth of ALJ news is that members of the Second Cert club are in a good position because: 1. The first certification to SSA of 168 candidates is dominated by veterans. 2. The first certification to SSA of 168 candidates is dominated by candidates with wide GAL's. 3. The emails that went out to the 168 candidates contained information about two training classes later in the summer of 2014, with room for 45 proto-ALJ's in each class. 4. SSA is budgeted for 90 new ALJ slots in FY 2014 and 90 new ALJ slots in FY 2015. 5. The current ALJ corps in SSA is in excess of 1500, and retirement rates are rising. I add all this up to a rough calculation that SSA will need to interview, hire and train 140-150 new ALJ's each year for the next 5 years, just to keep even with retirements and new hire commitments made to Congress. Please tell me where this analysis is wrong. Sounds good to me, jaftrey. On behalf of the "second cert (and beyond) club," we welcome you and all of our newest members-several of whom joined today. We 'll teach you the secret handshake once you have attained full member status. Looking forward to your posts. Sense of humorous required. Now I have to go negotiate with a group of neighborhood raccoons who are remonstrating on my front lawn seeking compensation for past wrongs.

hopefalj, I like the new photo. The lipstick really makes a statement. Just trying to make myself more appealing to the powers that be.

I am honored to be a member of the Second Certers. Heck, I was honored to get through to NOR status. All of which occurred without my full understanding of what was entailed to get this far, or how many were trying. And I SO APPRECIATE this forum during the roller coaster process and waiting! All hail Second Certers!

All hail Second Certers! Welcome aboard Almost! The more the better. Knowledge is power. And the more here the more knowledge. Come on you lurkers. Now's the time. Us second certers need you! And, we do need a secret handshake for the training in Falls Church for those that make it. It's been a wild ride and, if I'm lucky enough to make it, I'd like to know someday who was on this bus!

Well, I think I'm in the (and beyond) part of our little club with my itty bitty GAL, but that will keep me well away from the front of chessparent, so I'm good.

As I stated in the other thread, I made the first but apparently just barely. I continue to think the second cert is my best shot. And I really like all you guys.
If I can be a honorary member of your club, I will run point thru the first cert and send intelligence reports back to your fearless leader. As long as I don't have to meet with chessparent in person. While I have a high fat and cholestrol content, and am full of gluten, I'm deliciously smoked and just wouldn't feel safe.

You would be a worthy and companionable addition to our company. And next to you, I would look less than delectable to chessparent, which is also in your favor. So I vote in favor of your honorary membership in the Second Certers Club, even though I suspect it will only be for the couple of months it will take for them to hire you as an ALJ.

Congrats to all who made the cert and to those who will make the next one. Hopeful was right about the 3-strike rule. It can be used, but doesn't have to be used. You may be considered for many many locations and not be "3 struck". You know you are 3-struck when you no longer receive emails regarding upcoming certs. After having to update his reference info numerous times, an insider I knew was not notified about the 2012 cert. He called Bob G and was told that "he had been considered 3 times and would not be considered for any other certs from the existing register." FYI, the Agency made the right call! He would have been a terrible ALJ.

From the desk of the leader of the "second cert (and beyond)" club, henceforth known as SCAB-today's daily devotional from Mae West:
Between two evils, I always pick the one I haven't tried before.

Chessparent, Mike and Gary, you three can be SCABs, but I would rather be just be a SCC (Second Cert Club) member. I am not found of SCABs in either derivation of the word. I say it should be known by either acronym depending upon the person's choosing. Also, I do know I could possibly not make the second cert for some unknown reason, but then I will become a TCC (Third Cert Club) member. I choose SCC as my acronym for now.

I wish to apply for provisional status pending results of my long-shot appeal. I feel like membership in something other than the Appellate Club (sounds intellectual, doesn't it?) will give me additional hope and pizza. You all do have pizza parties, right?
