Depends on how long they need to make decisions, which depends on how may they plan on hiring at this time and their ability to reach people they want at this time based on the locations they're hiring for. If they're only going to hire 25-30 in the initial wave, they shouldn't need to convene as long as they did last time. I would think the 15th would still be possible, if not earlier. Why do you assume that the committee needs two weeks before offers can roll? This. The first cert they would hire in waves and then stop and reset their draft boards. I don't see any reason they can't do that again and I see lots of reasons that they would want to start making offers ASAP. If they know they want Ace and Miss who both probably sit in the top 3 of at least 1 locale why not fire up the telephone and get those hires made while you work your way down to folks with lower scores who may also be desirable.

But judging by how many people were interviewed, I think that small January class may have grown. Do we have any idea of how many total were hired interviewed?*
*Obviously, a Freudian slip. Or wishful thinking. Or something. You are assuming the second cert will only fill the January class with no further hires, however I believe the second cert will lead to additional hires for a February/March class(es). So, indeed January could be smaller with more to come in the following month or two without a new cert being drawn by SSA.

I would think they can start the offers rolling before meeting for an entire 2 weeks. I also think it is a real possibility that even after the January class is filled up with hires, they would continue with offers for later start dates. 250 is a lot of new judges.

Probably not much larger than 45-50 but still bigger than the minimum. I also think this will be only the first class hired off this cert. That doesn't meant that all the hiring will be done in December. I think there is a very real possibility they get the January class hired and go pop the champagne for New Years and leave many of us nervously posting on the Board until the 5th of January or later.

Thanks. Wasn't sure if things had changed or evolved since not all cities are hiring.

I like the way you think. I thought you might. I also think its true. Wow, thanks, g (and MPD in a different thread). My six-year-old nephew, who thinks I am his personal lawyer against the family announced, with all the knowledge that six-year-old kids have: "Aunt Miss is studying to be a judge," nodding very seriously. So I have the approval of one family member, even if he is a little confused by the process. It is understandable. lol.

I just got back from my interview in DC. I met sratty there. What a hoot! To meet one of our board members in person in Falls Church was great. And she is nicer in person than she comes across on this forum (if that's possible). I also met two other candidates, a man and woman, who are not board regulars. They both were very nice too. As an outsider, I've only met candidates for this position in person twice, in DC for testing, and today. Although my interaction today was more limited, everyone I have met seems really sharp and collegial. It speaks well for all of us.
As for the interview, it is done. Anything I can do to influence this process is completed. It has been a long road, but worth the journey. As a famous Spanish philosopher once said, "Que sera sera." (or was that just Doris Day?)

Gaidin,
All ODAR ALJs got an email today from the Chief Judge (Judge Bice) that said the January class would be about 25-30, but the total goal this year is 250 and talked about how minor retro-fitting of space would allow more available Hearing rooms to make sure all the new Judges have a place to call home.
Also, some of the new Judges from the "Top of the Register" class got a "transfer list" email verifying their interest in reassignment to the cities listed on their recent addition to the transfer list (November 24, 2014).

Tiger,
Can you give us any more info on the transfer lists? As an outsider, I would love to hear how deep those lists tend to be. And it would be great if you could hazard a guess as to when you new ODAR ALJs in the "Cream of the Crop" classes will start transferring.

And it would be great if you could hazard a guess as to when you new ODAR ALJs in the "Cream of the Crop" classes will start transferring. Sorry skippy, as a NODAR (outsider) not much information to give as the first email is just a general email asking if you are still interested in going to City a,b or c. It doesn't mean anything except that the Agency MAY be offering a transfer. HQ has a lot of competing issues to sort through on a cert by cert basis and I took the email as just a check off of options that they may utilize.
As far as the "Cream of the Crop" comment, if WE were the "cream of the crop", ODAR may want to burn the crop down and wait for the next growing season. "Cream of the Crop" would be a subjective allegation with no support in the record, however the "Top of the Register" is a objective finding from the mathematical facts of the most recent results of the OPM's ALJ register. But as always, best wishes and good luck to all.

As far as how deep the list goes, most cities don't have more than 8 or 9 on the list, but many are "placeholders". Placeholders will list cities #1-5 as their future "wish" list and just decline the first email. You don't lose your place in line and when the moon and stars works for you, then you can accept the invitation to transfer. I know of two ALJs who were 8 and 13 on their cities' list and both got the call to transfer and did so. So how low you are on the list doesn't matter unless you are #24 for Middlesboro, KY!! As we all know on this board, Middlesboro Kentucky is the "party capital" of Region IV or so I have heard.

I finally grasped the significance of tigerlaw's post due to my poor reading comprehension/analytical skills. I hope the first class once again rises to the top of this new list and gets to go back home (or closer to home) soon! At worst, you'll be at least one rung higher on the list.

Thanks Tiger! We really appreciate your checking in with intel!
I'm excited cause working the transfer list means a greater possibility that ODAR will be requesting more city certs soon!

Thanks Tiger! We really appreciate your checking in with intel! I'm excited cause working the transfer list means a greater possibility that ODAR will be requesting more city certs soon! I'm too new in the system to know exactly what any of the "transfer" list moves mean for certs and future certs, but so long as the Agency gets the funding in FY2015, there will be many MORE certs coming down the pipe. That I am positive about from everything that I have heard from Dep. Sklar and Chief Bice/ Dep. Chief Allen.
