You're getting paid/comped. That's a sweet perk. My mood is brightening at the prospect! I have been carrying the max credit for a while and if I work more than will carry over to the next pay period those hours vanish. It's only a good benefit if you take the time off when it is accrued. Lately that's been a bit of a challenge. But it is a great perk!

Should we start thinking about useful polls? One for location and one for NOR, I would think. What about how people ranked the location offered? Anything else?

You mean like a poll for each city? Where voters would indicate whether they made the cert for that city, what they ranked it and what their score range is?
I thought about doing that a while back, but 47 such polls seemed way to time consuming and complicated. But the info would be awesome, so if someone wants to, I'm all for it.
At this late stage tho, I think the only new poll we could get up and running is a "I got an offer for:" and list the 47 locales, type poll. But maybe I expect things to move faster than they actually will.

Once offers start rolling in we'll need a "Drink of the Day" thread that will carry us through until all offers are extended.

Mamaru, I would suspect that under writers are FLSA exempt, and are at such grades that the OT is capped per 5 USC. But maybe I am wrong.

I meant the writers are exempt (not under writers)

Sorry if I was unclear. Polls for the offers.

I was thinking a list for each location. This might indicate which locations have multiple offers and which locations no longer have any openings. Separate list for NOR, which will indicate how low they went into the register. And a separate list for where the location rain on the GAL, which could provide information about how they are using the rankings.

I haven't yet created a poll, so I defer to the expertise of others!

I am an AA. AA's and SAA's get time and a half for overtime. I am not going to digress and go into why - ALJ's don't get overtime so it's really not pertinent to the Board. It was just an offhand comment made after an 8-hour day of working overtime (at time and a half).

I meant the writers are exempt (not under writers) As Mamaru point out above, writers are not exempt and do get the overtime premium pay. Management is exempt and thus no premium pay, but the group supervisors do get additional straight time for the extra hours not time and a half like writers.

I think technically attorneys ARE exempt under the FLSA, but nothing in the FLSA prevents an employer from paying exempt employees overtime. It doesn't require it, but doesn't prohibit it. The Agency considers us nonexempt for pay purposes - I was pleasantly surprised to see that when I signed on! Make that "shocked" rather than "pleasantly surprised."

You are right. But exempt employees have to have ot approved, and ot is capped at straight time. Didnt mean to upset anyone.

When I started at ODAR I was happily shocked about the ability to earn OT when offered. Several years ago we could earn up to 18 hours a week if desired but we have not had authorization for that much in recent years. Still it is a nice treat when available.

To reassure the outsiders reading this that SSA is a good steward of your tax money, OT does need to be pre-approved for both exempt and non-exempt employees at SSA to avoid a situation where employees retroactively claim OT for hours when they are "suffered or permitted" to work without prior authorization. In the offices where I have worked, OT has been a great incentive to get writers to work down the backlog. I remember working a few weeks of 18 hours of OT - it was like being back in private practice.
