It's hard to incorporate 5 or 6 new Judges into an office at the same time, and then they all come up for transfer at the same time. Causing an endless shuffle with very little office work being done. Further, if you give 6 to Toledo and 6 to Mt. Plesant, you got nobody to give everybody else, so 1 or 2 missing Judges will get 1 and 5 or 6 missing Judges will geet 2 or 3 on each CERT. JMHO. Nothing would give a better "Welcome to Michigan" than a January report date. If I could give you five "likes" on your post hopefalj I would. Considering this past Winter, the snowfall would have even covered up the "Welcome to Michigan" sign you mentioned in your post. LOL!

Gary you are wasting your talents on an ALJ position when you could easily be doing stand-up comedy. I love all the quips and jokes my friend. I was laughing so hard after I read your post, I looked like an idiot to the rest of my co-workers. (Edited heavily to make up for errors made while laughing too hard while typing.)

And glad to give you something to explain to your colleagues.

See I was laughing so hard I couldn't even spell "talents" correctly and originally spelled it "taalents".

I guess I did gary, but maybe your real name is "wayne" and "gary" is just your alias. LOL! I apologize my friend. I told you that you had me rolling in the aisle laughing so hard and loud.

The second round of certs will be quite interesting indeed.
Like MPD, Bart and others, I expect to see many of the same cities that are on this first round. And Robes is right, logically folks in competition for slots in those cities will be in good shape considering so many higher scorers will have been dealt with on the first cert.
But, I also think there will be many more cities on the second than on the first. As I previously posted, I think this first round was the offices with multiple vacancies. The second will undoubtedly have some of them, but also many that just have one opening.
Seeing how those single vacancy locales shake out will be interesting. Some with high scores that missed the first cert due to gal will make the second. Some first certers that werent hired or struck will be in the running for them too.
I imagine there will be one group of cities where the highest scoring candidate is 72 and going down to the 60s. And another group of cities where the candidates score range is near identical to thise we see in the first cert.
Strange times

There is a long history of SSA not filling every (ALJ) spot available in a particular hearing office, either by hires or by transfers. If they don't need 8 ALJs in a hearing office, even if it was originally slotted for 8 ALJs, they don't have to fill it. Take for instance that several hearing offices in Southern California have vacancies, even multiple vacancies, and some have been vacant for years. However, the only spots apparently on the list for hiring in Region 9 is Las Vegas and Fresno. To my knowledge, there have been some recent transfers to each of those offices. Thus, those of you hoping to get hired there may have to cross your fingers for other hearing offices. I'm not sure that it comes down to scores at that point. I think the score goes into the hiring decision, but what office is selected for you isn't necessarily tied to a score. They will only hire ALJs (or other employees) as they need in a certain place.
That being said, best of luck to all those waiting for the call.

Has anybody heard whether the Albuquerque hires will be at the NHC or the regular HO or both?

of course, if everyone is worried about the cold in Mt. Pleasant and other Michigan locations, feel free to strike those places from your GAL. just more opportunity for those of us who really appreciated finally having a real winter this past year for the first time in a decade or two.

Just when I was beginning to like all your posts berk you come out of left field with this one. (said with my tongue in cheek ) Living in a certain area for most of my life and I can tell you I appreciate the less than normal winters with less snow, ice and cold. Of course as you age winter sporting events and activities don't have the same interest as they once had. While I do agree with your statement about others striking these locations, I do not agree with the appreciation of the "real winter". I could live with a little less "real winter" just fine.

There are those in MInnesota who could not imagine life without a long winter of hockey, ice-fishing and blizzard we're staying in with the fire days. Those in CO and UT love snow as it brings powder, tourists with dollars and gliding down the slopes. The stuff moves east and all's you hear is a collective groan and my gosh, I gotta shovel it again? Its all in the geographical perspective.
Those who live in coastal CA, FL and Tuscon just shrug.
I don't mean to belabor the obvious, but isn't that part of the adventure when you have a wide open GAL? You could end up in one of 47 places and in the future transfer again? Crapland is hardly that, we all know its rich with culture, history and just plain good folks. LA may be the stuff of young girls dreams, but you don't know your neighbor and state income tax eats up more of your paycheck than all your utiilties and cell phone combined.
Good luck and a special tip of the glass to you adventurers!

While there may have been 47 cities on the cert, the cities may change. Transfers are still going on.

However, if I am fortunate enough to make the second cert and even more fortunate to land a gig in Mount Pleasant, it's still going to be a pretty harsh "Welcome to your adventure!" to report in January or February. I will admit that a large part of the excitement of the possibility of becoming an ALJ is the almost certainty that I will be relocating.

The folks assigned to New Orleans this August have an equally unpleasant but different welcome coming. Don't you be pickin' on Nawlins! What's a little sticky heat when you have po'boys, beignets, oysters and more culture than you could possibly soak up? If ODAR had hired me and sent me to that great city I'd still be there, gettting hassled by NOPD at all hours doing God knows what. Nawlins has a way of bringing out that which might stay hidden in any other locale...
