In light of last week's glacial progress and new information from everyone's little birds, this teatotaller offers the following drink for First Certers chewing off their fingernails this weekend:
The Marathon --------------------
50ml gin 2 barspoons La clandestine absinthe (clear absinthe) 10ml lemon juice 15ml fennel shrub
Preparation:
Shake hard for at least 9 seconds and strain. Serve with some lemon zest and fennel frond arranged fancy-like.

Anyone partaking in a couple of these might also want to strategically place pillows for a soft landing when they fall over.

Actually, that's two bar sthingys, which is about two teasthingys.
Edit: Seriously? Two bar s.p.o.o.n.s, which is about two tea sthingys.
Edit 2: Okay. Trying again. Two tsp.

I am LOL with tears running down my face. Darn spell check ... I didn't even notice the "correction." No, I have not been partaking. Yes, it should be 2 bar s-p-o-o-n-s thanks for the correction, Baglady.

I can't count the times I've typed the letters "a s t h i n g y s" when I meant to type the letters "s p o o n s."

Why would s-p-o-o-n-s be replaced? Is it a dirty word or have significance in the drug culture? I may be hopelessly naive, but it seems like a pretty harmless word to me. Can anyone explain?

I had the same issue with my Long Island Ice Tea recipe I listed earlier in this thread anotherfed. Who knows why s-p-o-o-n is bad to some spell check system?

It's an odd correction. The only vaguely risqué use I can think of is s p o o n ing and it seems to me spooning sounds dirtier.

Some of the words that are blocked on this board amuse me. I doubt people refer to p-o-o-n very often, especially with some folks apparently unable to recognize the word. I occasionally want to list some profane or untoward words on the board just to see how many times replacements like "thingy" or "I disagree" pop up. As of now, we have a certain utensil, half of the compound word for South Carolina's mascot, and any word containing the three letter version of donkey that are disallowed.

Funny you can say fork on the board, along with teabag, but not teasthingy (teasp00n) or plain sthingy. (sp00n).

Today's drink should be a sloe gin fizz, except we should spell it as SLOW.

Ask, and ye shall receive! Today's Drink of the Day is the Slow Gin Fizz:
1 oz sloe gin 1 oz gin 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice 1 oz simple syrup 3 - 4 oz soda water
Shake the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup with ice and strain into an ice-filled highball glass. Top with soda, garnish with a slice of orange and a cherry, and serve. Repeat as necessary.
Today's drink comes with a toast: To the good old days - which we are having right now.

You rock BL. First of your DODs I actually have all the ingredients for. Think I am gonna mix a couple, grill some steaks and steady the soul for another week of almost assured disappointment, but maybe, just maybe a phone call.
Good luck everybody.
