Yes, yes, of course Pixie gets her own Drink of the Day! This one is compliments of anotherfed, and it's perfect for the one and only Pixie. Today's Drink of the Day is the Pixie Stick Martini: 1 part peach Schnapps 1 part blueberry Vodka 1 part Cranberry juice Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into glass. Raise a toast to Pixie, and serve. Repeat as necessary. anotherfed noted that she found this recipe on drinknation.com and the comment read, "This drink recipe was submitted by one of our funktastic readers, pixie." We're wondering if Pixie and funkyodar might be cheating on us with another board . . .

OK, so with all the celebrating going on, I'm going to suggest a DotD for August 24 (the day before the first report-to-work-day). It's called The Day After: 1/2 lb coffee grounds (caffeinated only) 1 c water Boil together in a pot cowboy-coffee style until coffee starts to corrode the pot. Filter through a press-pot, screen or paper to remove grounds. Drink with heavy cream, sugar, whatever. Repeat as necessary. [Yes -this is a joke - please don't try this at home!!]

If you put the grounds in a (clean) sock it's much easier. Boil forever and remove the sock - you're good to go. This is from the (now extinct) Flying W Ranch in Colorado Springs. Not a joke.

@ mamamru & gary - you'd still probably want to use more than 1 c water to 1/2 lb grounds. And if you're doing it for real, yes! egg shells, or chicory (yay, Cafe du Monde!). Oh - AND, knowing this crowd, probably some "hair of the dog!"

True, they filled that old coffee pot with water after throwing in the sock, which they filled with grounds and tied shut. I don't think exact measurements were a big deal but I'm guessing the water to coffee ratio was bigger than 2:1. They did not add egg shells or chicory - the idea was to provide a meal based on chuck wagon dining during cattle drives. Perhaps they didn't have chickens along for eggs back in the day. I'm no expert on cattle drive cuisine.
Unfortunately Gary, the Flying W, which was a major tourist attraction, was consumed in a wild fire. Not cooky's fault. Burned to the ground. Many wept. Personally, I prefer Cafe du Monde.

As we all know, the value of the board comes from the participation of its members. And there are a few "old timers" that still occasionally chime in and tell us of the way it used to be. There are too many board members to mention everyone by name, but I've really appreciated posts by deltajudge, decadealj, and bartleby (although, technically, I don't think Bart is yet an "old timer"!). Today's Drink of the Day gives thanks to the ALJs who still come back, share information, and tell us about the Good Old Days: 4 oz Champagne 1/2 oz Old Krupnik® honey liqueur Pour into a champagne flute, add a cherry, and serve. Raise a toast to the "old timer" board member(s) you most appreciate.

Today's Drink of the Day is a two-fister: a shot and a cocktail, to be consumed in celebration or to soften the disappointment. Our drinks come from none other than The Man himself (yes, I asked!!), which is fitting for our last official Drink of the Day. Of course, always, always feel free to contribute to this thread! First, a shot of Fireball. And then, a Red Headed very *friendly* person: 1 oz peach schnapps 1 oz Jagermeister® herbal liqueur cranberry juice Chill and serve. Repeat as necessary. Thank you all for your kind words of support posted online and in PM. I raise my glass to all of you: May every day be happier than the last.Edit: How kind of the forum to edit the name of the drink to "very *friendly* person."

Bag Lady - You are certainly going out of your role as unofficial bartender in style - Double Like! But please don't leave the Board just because you got some hotsy-totsy Judge job!

BL,
Not to be a nit-picker, but I started to copy your 'suggestions' and find that we are missing a DofD for 07/19/14! Thought they would make a wonderful short book about what to do when one is waiting for something important. May become a 'guide' for other suffering souls!
Cheers,
TLS

In light of last week's glacial progress and new information from everyone's little birds, this teatotaller offers the following drink for First Certers chewing off their fingernails this weekend: The Marathon -------------------- 50ml gin 2 barsthingys La clandestine absinthe (clear absinthe) 10ml lemon juice 15ml fennel shrub Preparation: Shake hard for at least 9 seconds and strain. Serve with some lemon zest and fennel frond arranged fancy-like. Never fear! This was the DotD for July 19. (Note to the future: It's teasp00ns, not barsthingys.)

8-)Baglady, appreciate you thinking of us old timers. Glad to discourse on how it used to be, but sadly that is not relevant anymore. So, I wish the best for all trying to forge a way in the ODAR of the day. BHA and OHA have faded a way. So I will hoist my drink of everyday, rum and coke, and ask decade to crank up his blender and crank up one of his to hoist to y'all. Good Luck!!!

Champagne to those who got hired! Try Laurent-Perrier (NV), Veuve Cliquot (NV) or Pol Roger (NV). Of course if you can spring for Vintage, they are far better wines than the more popular Dom Perignon...
