That's great news! I really enjoyed my interview. I hope you all do too.

You don't think they're going to make the August 10 hires first, Hopeful? Seems like a lot of moving pieces and it is very strange for interviews to be set this far in advance of certificate emails. I don't know about Hope but I think the cert emails may come out first or in the same few days. Since each each city is its own cert there is nothing to prevent it and they have certainly hired two classes off certs before.

I probably would have thought of that had I even the most basic of reasoning and analytical skills. Unfortunately, I seem to be lacking in both. I think they may be okay in pushing forward with the new certs before completing the August hire. Obviously they already have some number of certs in hand, and I would think that some of those certs would include folks still up for the August hire. I realize it would be a little bizarre (although not necessarily unwelcome from the candidate's standpoint) for a candidate to receive a cert e-mail, rank the cities, and then get hired for a completely different city for the August class. A workaround would be to issue supplemental certs to August candidates that do not get hired yet appear on the new certs and allow them to rank the new cities. They don't need to update references or interview again, so it would be much more streamlined than the process with sealaw & Co. You're probably correct that they'll try to complete the August hire (if it hasn't already been completed) before issuing the certs, but like you said, it is strange that they would start contacting folks for interviews well ahead of cert e-mails.

I think: 1. SSA planned to complete August hiring yesterday, but ran into the unexpected complications (whatever they are) which delayed them; 2. Has the new certs for September; 3. Planned to send the cert emails today, but were delayed by the delayed August offers; 4. Were planning to schedule people for end of July interviews beginning today, and decided not to delay the scheduling (see November 2014 for precedent); 5. Really, really, really wants to get the August offers done early next week; 6. Really, really doesn't want to send cert emails before finishing August hiring, but will do so if need be. Also, I think: 7. August hiring will be from the old certs; 8. September hiring will be mostly, if not totally, from the new certs.

The cert emails could easily roll out Monday. I can understand trying to get the jump on the travel arrangements. It does seem to indicate this could be a large cert group.

Congratulations to those who were contacted to interview! Keep in mind that interview experiences vary - some people have a positive experience and no offer, others walk out unhappy with what happened and end up as ALJs. There's an element of luck of the draw involved. Finally - you don't know what cities you are being interviewed for at this point. When the new cert rolls out you will get a list of the cities but you simply need to be patient. Good luck and have a fun trip to FC!

Gary - I find your logic unassailable with information we currently have. I don't even think we have credible rumors which would contradict your analysis. Bravo.

I got the call too! I was surprised because my GAL is VERY limited. I figured I would have to wait for a GAL expansion. I have yet to talk to the person with SSA, though. He missed me and I left him a message. Any idea when these interviews are being scheduled for?

I had to read your comment three times before I understood that you were agreeing with Gary! Maybe that's why I failed the SJT and not asked to move forward.

So do I understand this correctly? People are getting calls to interview but never got sent an email from SSA notifying them that their name was referred ("cert emails")? And the cities on their GALs were not on the last round of cert emails from SSA? That is correct so far. Additionally it appears that this is the week to interview tiny GALs (if only I was!) but more data points would be nice. I got my confirmation email about 3 hours after the phone call.

I got the call this afternoon too. I called back - missed him and then got an email saying he tried to reach me and I should call back within 24 hours. So I called again and left another message and replied to his email saying I'd be happy to schedule the interview. Hopefully, I'll be able to connect today!
For my history - I was on the last cert (my first time) for two of my 10 or 15 cities, but I declined....no longer want to move there. So I never interviewed. I'm kind of excited but don't want to get my hopes up too much!

I have to share that I did not enjoy the interview at all. Granted, I am a new mom and had had very little sleep but was not fully prepared for the questions and the extreme seriousness of my interviewers. i think I got the ones with the lowest sense of humor :-(
Good luck to all - being relaxed is key! And yes, DC is crazy hot and humid right now so dress in breathable fabric!

To add info to the pool: 1. The cities on my GAL have not been previously pulled for this register. 2. I've now received an email with travel instructions. 3. I've not received the "cert email."
Good luck to all those interviewing. For those still waiting for the call, I sincerely hope that you receive it soon.
