I have not heard anything personally but I believe there were some interviews.

Any news on these jobs? I was referred to three locations but not contacted for an interview.

Any news out there? My friend interviewed and then it's been radio silence.

I did two interviews (1 telephonic and 1 in person at the regional office). Between the first and second interview I received my NOR and the day of the second interview I got the email that I made certs for this ODAR round of hiring in cities I really wanted, which was a surprise. I withdrew my USDA AJ application as a result as these were unanticipated developments and I didn't feel right about maintaining this application no matter what happened with ODAR on the chance that I would leave to take an ALJ job if I had been lucky enough to get selected.
All that being said, my impression was that this was a great job with great people and an interesting and varied caseload. I would have definitely kept my hat in the ring as it were if the NOR/cert items had not happened when they did. I don't know anyone else who applied and have not heard of any hiring or further developments with USDA NAD. But they clearly were moving forward with these hires when I was still in the process. Good luck to all who applied - again this looked like a terrific opportunity.

Thanks for the info. Which region did you interview in?

Bringing this thread back from the dead because I saw a few openings recently on USAJOBS.
Did anyone on this thread move forward with interviews, etc. when this was announced last time around? The job seems very interesting to me, although it'd be a lateral move. I'd like to hear from anyone with insight on the nature of the position.
Of course, who knows if any of the slots will actually be filled? I doubt by 1/20, and then all feds are in a holding pattern ( hopefully not, but preparing for the worst never hurt, I guess).

I applied and from discussions with people on this board, I believe 2 people from this board were selected to interview. I spoke with an individual inside the USDA familiar with the process and I was told they were inundated with resumes and basically pulled only resumes with prior judicial experience before deciding who was going to be interviewed.
It appears from the job postings, they are either looking for USDA insiders (from the "only these people may apply" heading) in the larger vacancy announcement or only very specific candidates with prior judicial experience in the smaller vacancy announcement.
My experience with the USDA was that the process is very long and drawn out. Not as much as the ALJ process but more along the lines of the USDA hiring officials were not in a hurry and did not exactly know what they were doing.

Prior judicial experience in that only former state judges moved forward?
Seems strange for a GS-12/13/14 job. I have a ton of federal adjudication experience and even have done "Acting Judge" in my current field (we have non-APA AJs), but I'm not a judge.
I applied to one of the locations open to everyone (I'm a fed, but not with USDA). I guess I shouldn't be checking the real estate listings for my preferred location quite yet . Shame. Seemed like a good fit for me. I suppose hope springs eternal.
Oh well. Got to be in it to win it.

I was on the fence but ended up applying for this at 11:45pm. I know zip about USDA regs but have tons of hearing officer experience in state court. We'll see what happens.

I applied to every location except North Dakota. I'm expecting this to be impacted by a hiring freeze not public health or national security.

I'm guessing no one's heard of any movement on these positions.

My intel would be that, unfortunately, it's likely you'll have the interview cancelled. Hiring freeze got signed this morning.
Hope I'm wrong....and there may be a waiver out there or some sort of exception as funds for the position were already budgeted. Anyone's guess, I suppose.
Good luck. I hope you get a shot to interview.

I applied for the St. Louis location and have not heard anything. I'm assuming this hiring freeze puts a hold on the process, but would love to hear input from anyone else that might know something about the process.

Oh man, @alj10028, that stinks - even though it wasn't really a surprise.

Yes-that's a drag. At least they told you it's "postponed." Hopefully, they'll remember you when the freeze ends.

I'm a current fed, so am wondering if lateral moves are still ok...
I doubt it, though.
I applied for Manchester, NH.
