My thought is that it is odd that we have only had one member report an offer.
If you guys don't want to post publicly, just PM me and I will post it anonymously. We need to know what is going on. Pixie

My second interview was in late November. EOIR contacted my references and my current boss in early December. I have not heard anything since then.

From a board member just now:
"Hi Pixie! Could you please post this message anonymously on the forum:
I applied for the October IJ posting and received a tentative offer the third week of December. I am currently undergoing the background process. Do not have an EOD and was told it would depend on when funding is finalized. I know of one other person who got an IJ offer for a different city and got the call the same day I did."

I applied in the December job posting. My application was accepted and I completed my first interview. Just wanted any info available as to whether anyone else in the December applicants received an invite for a second interview? If not, what is the rough time frame for second interviews? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It seems like second interview invites are just like everything else with the process - it varies. My experience for the October 2023 posting was that I got an invitation for a second interview two days after my first interview.

From Oct 2023 posting, I too had second interview at the beginning of December, references contacted before the holidays, no more movement since. I was (perhaps foolishly) optimistic, since I'd received a tentative offer in Nov 2022 from an early 2022 posting but turned it down since it wasn't for my city of choice, and so thought I'd be competitive this round, given the two quickly-scheduled interviews. But apparently not...

I know a few people have received offers, but I am surprised that there have not been more. I wonder if the lack of offers has to do with EOIR waiting to get a FY2024 budget (rather than the continuing resolution that they have been working under since October). That could also just be me holding out hope that offers could still come.

open to the public: Asylum officer www.usajobs.gov/job/770996100Closes in 2 days! it's judgy, gets your foot in the immigration judge thang. Only problem is it requires experience with asylum claims. (look at the questionnaire). However pay is low but not intolerable, nice variety of locations, so check it out if you are trying to get into the system. Good luck!

From a member who wishes to remain anon:
"I received a tentative offer on Friday Jan 19. After a few people posted about offers going out in late Dec and early Jan I assumed all offers had already been extended. But at least as of a week ago they were still happening, so folks who had second interviews and reference checks probably still have reason to hold out hope. Also, I have no idea how or when location preference factored in, seems like they are purposely opaque about that, but I only chose one location on my application and was offered a different (but somewhat close) location."

Reference checks have begun from the December posting. I hasten to add, though, that this does not mean that anybody is necessarily in imminent danger of receiving a conditional offer from that posting.

Greetings everyone, just kinda wanted to check in. Had second interview approximately 2 weeks ago from the December posting. Haven’t heard anything. It doesn’t appear that they have checked references yet. Do they always check references after a second interview? Does anyone have any guidance on the relative timing of anything in the process? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn’t appear that they have checked references yet. Do they always check references after a second interview? Does anyone have any guidance on the relative timing of anything in the process? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It seems that in the last few years they have begun checking references routinely after second interviews, even for people that didn't end up getting offers. And I am gleaning that from any number of posts here to that effect - posters stating that their references were contacted even though they never got an offer. Personally, I think that's poor form, but - judging by what people have posted here - it has been happening the last few years. When I went through the process some years ago, AFAIK that did not happen. If they were checking references, it was because an offer was imminent. That's how it worked for me. OTOH, it's also my impression that second interviews have become much more common, particularly with the ubiquity of Microsoft Teams, than they used to be. My second interview was at Main Justice, so I suspect they didn't want to put people through that unless it was pretty serious. In contrast, how much effort does it take to click a link on your home PC with a nice virtual background wearing a pair of shorts and sit for a virtual interview? Concerning timing, I've heard that they are warning candidates that the lack of an annual budget is interfering with their ability to make offers, but it's clearly not preventing all offers because there is a class scheduled to start in the next month or two, and someone here posted not long ago that they just got an offer. So some offers are going out, but probably not as many as they would like until there is a budget.

I had a second interview in the beginning of February and since then radio silence! I wish I could know either way. Waiting is hard. Should I take this to mean they moved on? Wondering how many positions there were in each location???

Wondering how many positions there were in each location??? It still is February, so I wouldn’t worry just yet. I haven’t seen any movement this month on the main board or in PM. Budget stuff for immigration has been in the news of late…maybe that plays into it? I’m not in the mix this time, even though I did apply for a third time (must have gotten sick of me on this most recent pass). In my previous two go-arounds, though, the second interview/reference checks came and went with long periods of radio silence before the FOAD from USAJOBS. It happens. Hang in there and hope for the best. I don’t think you’re out of it yet.
