Wow...a GAL expansion. Now I know what it feels like to be Bart and PA. "You damn youngsters have it so easy. back in my day we had to stick with the GAL we originally took to the dance." Sorry I haven't been around much lately, but very glad to see the much hoped for expansion is a reality. Excited to hear from old friends that they are in the Cert rodeo again. maybe this is the one. You definitely all deserve the call. And happy for those that are reporting just finishing testing...exciting times ahead for you folks. I check in from time to time and try to respond to PM as quickly as possible. Will of course pass on any intel I get. Mainly though, I will assume the Bart and PA role of cheerleader/"get off my lawn" guy. Good luck all. So should we now call you CrankyODAR?
For some reason, I see you and Tiger as the two geezers sitting in the balcony and heckling Kermit at the Muppets show.

I like CrankyODAR, but I have never seen him cranky. But, if we are looking for a new name, I have a short list of 48 different combos of the funkyodar name that I never posted during the Great Board Wars of 2013-14. Maybe I will PM to funky first or just text him one a day for the next 48 days, unless he has changed his telephone number.

Oh, I'm sure it had more to do with us not knowing each other on a personal basis, but it most likely started over one of the favorite battle lines. Insider v. Outsider; Vets v. non Vets; intoxication v. sobriety; stupid backwoods redneck from BFE, Miss. v. brilliant tall handsome lad from the Great State of Tennessee...sorry, the PTSD (from the Great Board Wars) kicks in sometimes! Once we got to know each other, we realized we had many more things in common than not, other than IQ and looks!

I thought Funky brought in reinforcements (Pix) and you got de-clawed. Funny how history changes over time.

I went ahead and did a total 180 from unbelievably tiny to wide-open. Given how much my circumstances have changed since 2013, it seemed wise to keep my options open. Even if it doesn't work out, it is kind of fun to be open to a totally new adventure. Whatever GAL you choose, may you get your first choice! That travel math site is really nifty! Wingnut to Mount Pleasant!

According to its website, Mt. Pleasant is "... the most livable community in mid-Michigan." Who am I to knock it?

According to its website, Mt. Pleasant is "... the most livable community in mid-Michigan." Who am I to knock it? i think mid Michigan is the key phrase to focus on there. Did my rough draft list; it's a downsizing for me. getting more drawn to the hometown lately and am looking at list as would i rather live at location X temporarily if selected as a judge(!!) or stay put where i am as a GS 13. Surprised myself with some of my responses but it is only a rough draft. of course, most of the oh i'd love to move there places stayed but i suspect many of them are popular. lucky for me some of the answers to the yeah i could live there for awhile are frequent flyers on the certs. now to pass the test, also known as making the register. and alas, some of the oh i want to move there are on my husband's h..... no list. thankfully, most of his h.... no spots are either my h.... no or at least meh :/ spots. it is funny how geographically alike we are regarding many areas!!!! i guess that is what marriage can do

And it is the first time ever that people not on the register have been allowed to modify their GALs. The first time opm allowed applicants to modify their GAL,that I'm aware of, was for the last cert. prior to this new testing process.

It was in the summer of 2012, with the old register, back in the "one cert with every city covered on it" process. I don't remember offhand how many certs there were after that, but there may have been more than one.

That would have been for the last register and would have been only for people then on the register. This time some people not on the register are being allowed to modify their GALs, which I believe is a first.

And, it was a good move to include those people, since it's been a long time since they picked GALs, and they need a register that for the next year or so is as accurate as it can be about what cities people are willing to go to.

I think I am ready to declare my first SWAG...Both OPM and SSA seem to be moving very quickly to replenish the ranks of the SSA judicial core. The first hire is 50 with two classes of 25 running simultaneously with classes beginning Feb 29th (thanks Gaidin)so I think everyone could agree that OPM and SSA are working together to appease an angry Congress that is upset with a million claimant backlog. So....the results for the October through December group, which are being graded on a rolling basis from start of testing (thanks Gary), should be out no later than the week of January 18, 2016. SSA should do one more hire before the refresh in April, otherwise it would seem fairly pointless to have invited the Oct-Dec testers to DC, IMHO. Given the new spirit of cooperation between those two fine agencies, I am guessing they are scrambling to keep Congress off their backs, the Oct-Dec test results will not be seriously delayed because of the holidays as most of it should already be graded. The last testing concludes this week, if I recall correctly. With dwindling numbers of candidates taking the exam in December, etc., etc., I am going for mid-January NOR results. Apparently in light of such recent "classics" as "The Secret" and its ilk, positive things will happen to positive people. So already knowing the answer is "42", I think we should all gather in a collective positive electronic hug fest and emote nothing but positive energy for the next four weeks and we should all be happy come the New Year. (Curmudgeon disclaimer: I've always felt positive things will happen to negative minded people because opposites attract. I am apparently wrong in this thinking and have disabused my psyche to only emote positivity). ....at least until the NOR's are released....then I will have to reassess.

If you are happy with your GAL choices keep it the same and good luck. I made some mistakes with my original GAL that were compounded by a computer error and have been waiting to expand my GAL ever since. I know that for some folks their current list is more than satisfactory. Remember though that you can always make it smaller later you may not be able to make it bigger. If I don't get picked up this time I look forward to seeing Middlesboro, Mt. Pleasant, and Tupelo show up on my certs in the future. If I ever cert (what a verb) Middlesboro will be high priority on my list!
