I apologize if I'm missing a thread that may have already started. I'm on vacation and haven't been checking. But I received a text message from one of my references to inform me that he/she was contacted. I'm surprised. My interview hasn't taken place yet.

It is common for references to be contacted both before and after interviews. I think the main thing for SSA is to have them contacted before the Hiring Committee meets.

My references reported getting their calls today - I interviewed this past Monday. For a while I was afraid they didn't get my paperwork. Funny how this process messes with your mind! Can't remember ever being so edgy about a job application. Hopefully all is in order now for the hiring committee!

On page 2 there is a five page discussion started back on April 18, 2016 that fully discusses references. It took me all of 30 seconds to find it. The interview process and the reference check process are on completely different tracks, but by the time the hiring committee meets, they will have all the info from both (though it is quite common for not all of a particular person's references to be contacted.

It's hard to even feel welcome to post. It really does help to have all the "references being contacted" posts for each round on the same thread. Yes, there are slightly different nuances on the topic in some posts, but the basic topic is all the same. Pix is trying to encourage people to use the search function, so that similar ground is not being plowed in multiple threads, and the same questions on various topics being asked and answered several times.

I am going to guess they will meet the week of 16 May, but it would be good to get some actual intel. I don't think we'll really know until it is happening.
As far as this thread topic - hopefully all (or almost all) of the references will be contacted by this Friday/Saturday, so the hiring panel can meet next week.
Offers beginning before Memorial Day would be awesome.
Mack15, don't get too upset, feel free to post. Yes, references are contacted before, during and after your interview. This is various parts of the process obtaining the complete dossier on you so that the hiring panel can meet and have a complete record. It is probably one of the few times that multiple processes are occurring simultaneously. Rejoice!

It's hard to even feel welcome to post. It would have been better to have the posts in this thread combined with the posts in the other thread. Yes, your question was a bit different, but it was related to the other thread. It may have been asked and answered in the other thread. I didn't read all of the posts, so I don't know. You are certainly welcome to post here. Just look and see if there is a thread already on your topic before you start another one. And it isn't just you. It is a common mistake usually made by new members. Pixie.

I believe SSA will want to give offerees at least three full weeks between offer and start date. For the 6/27 class that would mean last offers 6/3.
They can average about 10 offers per day. If they really attempt to hire 60, that means at least 6 working days of offers. With the Memorial Day holiday, that would likely mean first offers no later than Thursday 5/26. I'm guessing they might start them a day or two earlier than that. To start offers the week of 5/23, the Hiring Committee will need to meet the week of 5/16.
In order to do all that in those timeframes, they'll need to have interviews done by Friday (which comports with our intel on interviews) and references checked no later than Sunday.
None of this precludes them from continuing after the 6/27 class is hired and rolling right into offers for the 60 anticipated hires for the 7/25 class.
