Except that a number of us are in highly desirable locations that were filled every time there was a cert by transfers prior to offers being made. This is all well documented on this board. I've heard this before, the "highly desired locations" within SSA. Which locations are you referring to? I don't know if these are "highly desirable" or just somewhat desirable, but I'm pretty sure of at least two locations where no hires were made - New York and Phoenix.

I've heard this before, the "highly desired locations" within SSA. Which locations are you referring to? I think this is just a general reference to the idea that very few new hires have been placed in big city offices since the large hiring in 2008 and 2009. There have always been an exception here and there but since 2010 the vast majority of new judges have been assigned to offices in mid sized to rural cities especially in the rust belt and rural south. This is a pattern that is likely to continue since these are the offices being vacated by transfers. Additionally, there has been little hiring into regions I and II at any point since hiring started. Those regions cover New England and New York which for many folks on the register were the only cities on their GAL

Thanks. Is there any way to know whether the listed openings for this cert were filled by transfers or might still be open?

Wow, please limit the discussion to the topic. Some of you who are making tacky comments about other's success have some ugly karma coming your way. There is no need to wish others ill will just so that you can get ahead. It's ridiculous.

privateatty- I've asked this before on this board, but never really gotten an answer. You reference the idea of SSA trying to get to the people they "want" (and you are far from the first to suggest this), so my question is- who do they want? Is it literally certain individuals (somebody's nephew or neighbor), or is there some general group of people they prefer (people who have worked at SSA, or maybe the opposite)? This Board has scores of pages on this topic. Suffice to say that SSA has shown a prediliction for hiring those whom they know, either insiders, reps or OGC. Now, having said that, there are alot of posters who have looked at their respective training class and declared ratios of insiders to outsiders that would tend to belie a majority of insiders. Many folks have posted differing opinions. The topic has been declared a dead, fully beaten, horse. Pixie has jsut posted that the process is hardly random. I have read every post since 2007. I agree with Pixie.

I believe I read a post yesterday (quoting from an announcement by ODAR) the statement that all transfers had been made. Query: Would the GAL for those on the March 2013 cert need to be re-submitted? Presumably, there would be additional openings not on the list submitted with the apps.

Union newsletter from June 24th confirms many of the things we already knew. At the latest LMC meeting agency confirmed there is no current hiring authority. The transfer list has been run in the event a hire is done. 20 candidates need to be interviewed if hiring authority is granted. Anticipate if authority is granted, positions would be offered with 6 weeks notice. Hoping to hire 20-30 judges this FY, revisit things mid July.
Somewhat new info, there are 92 open ALJ offices nationwide. There are no vacancies in region 8, the most vacancies are in region 5.

The House committee on entitlements will be holding several hearings starting today on the role of SSA ALJ adjudicating claims, backlog, etc- particularly the adjudicating process- maybe this will help get some movement in budgeting and hiring - maybe...

Hi, not on the current cert (one of the new guinea pigs) but pulling for you guys and have been following along with this thread. From what SoutheastALJ posted yesterday about the comments that SSA still hopes to make a 30 or so hire if given authority and they plan to revisit it in mid-July, wouldnt that mean they extended the cert?
