What little I can glean and infer is there is no correlation between the rate or frequency of contact by OMNI and you as a candidate. They do things their way and you do things your way. In the immortal words of Ol' Blue Eyes..."THAT'S LIFE"...
Forgive me if I sound preachy...but I feel strongly on this one.

I am listed as a reference for three candidates, and I haven't been contacted for any of them yet. The questions are probably the same, or similar, as the questions in an FBI background check. They will be probing for any of the standard bugaboos, plus some tailored for the position. Pix.

The day after my interview, I returned to my office to find 2 messages from Yale Investigators of NY regarding 2 different candidates. Each message was from a different representative. I called the first one and answered questions pertaining to the topics referenced by Kingfisher. When I called the second representative, she told me that she no longer had the file for that candidate. The representative was nice enough to answer some questions. She said her supervisor had taken the file b/c she had successfully contacted a minimum of 7 references. At my urging, the representative did take down my cell phone in case the file was returned to her. The point is don't assume all of your references will be contacted. It seems their goal is no less than 7 but not necessarily all of the references listed. None of the 12 I listed have told me they were contacted yet. 7 of my references have been contacted as of Friday (2 judges, 4 attorneys, and 1 office director)

As of yesterday, three of my references have been contacted: my current boss, a co-worker, and an adversary [defense attorney who represents folks I have prosecuted]. I haven't heard from any of the judges I listed as references, and assume they haven't been contacted yet.

OK. It looks as if most of my references have been contacted from both my original application and from the Interview and Background Questionnaire Form. Although, I don't think they need to get everyone since one or two references (who were not in when the investigator called) returned her phone call and were told that they didn't need to give her any information since I was all set. I was also contacted by Theresa at Yale for another candidate yesterday who listed me on her Interview Questionnaire and spent about 10-15 minutes with her. Interestingly, Theresa was the investigator that called my references

May I vent? I am so bummed-out after reading "July's" post- My references were contacted late on a Friday afternoon. I had put down 4 ALJ's: 1 RCALJ, 2 HOCALJ's and a front-line ALJ. ONE was reached by phone. The others have tried to return the call, to no avail. I believed that they were my strongest references, but I had listed EXTRA references, just in case, and all those people were contacted, at least 7 of them. I fear that my case is "closed" by the contractor, without getting my strongest references! AAAUUUGH! Thanks for listening- Guess I'll cancel that order for a robe -hahaha!

Take a deep breath. All the references you posted should have been good people. As long as they are honest in assessments, you don't need the "strongest" references I believe. I would have been happy to get all references listed, but still pleased with ones contacted.
Life is good.

Yeah- I guess it might be just a "pass or fail" thing- but I guess I thought that WHO the references were counted, especially SSA references, and WHAT they said counted. This whole process gets weirder and weirder as it plays out. But your point, Chris, is well-taken. The contractor has a mountain of calls to make, and in a short period of time. Reaching attorneys (let alone judges) can be a daunting task!
I'm going skiing tomorrow, and then I'll echo Southerner's "life is good."

I've only had two folks that I know of that gave references. A third was contacted and told he would be called back if needed, but he wasn't called back. No one else has fessed up to being contacted!
I have a funny, yet sad, tale to tell. I worked for someone for a number of years and then we joined in partnership. Then I took over the firm. This is the sole person who could really discuss my work over the past umpteen years. When Yale contacted him on the cell phone to discuss my employment, he was in a port-o-john. Instead of asking, "Can you call me back in 10 minutes?" he goes ahead and answers all the questions while in the freezing cold port-o-san!
If that weren't enough, I think he thought he was talking to SSA personnel and not some hired reference taker and tried to talk about what he perceives as SSA's ineptitude rather than my work. I don't think it went very well, as he didn't really address the questions asked about me. I am not thrilled, to say the least. His life will change dramatically if I get an ALJ job (I'll have to close down the practice) and I believe that was a motivating factor.
I'm hoping the ALJ references I gave were contacted. Hopefully they weren't be on the can when the call came in!

Although this may not sound like much consolation, remember that based on information we've learned on the boards, the contractor will be contacting at least 7 references. So, hopefully, the other 6 will balance out what this one person has said. Also, you've got the interview to wash away any damage he may have caused. Add to that the fact that it sounds like he really didn't address the questions, and, hopefully, any damage was minimized. Best of luck!

It was not very nice, but I believe the ALJ references should balance it out. The ALJs have been very positive about my application and really encouraged me to apply. Thanks for your good luck wishes, doc who - - any good karma sent my way would be appreciated! Good luck to all candidates and best wishes to those who have yet to interview. The interview was by far the best part of this entire process.

Yeah, tt, I totally agree with drwho on this one. You did well in the interview, the Judges like you, you are on the road...consider the karma sent.
Maybe you should send conanthebarbarian down to straighten this former partner out?

Ditto. My references were finally called today. A couple told me some of the routine things they asked. Surely the conversation was recorded as no one could possibly write fast enought to take down all the comments by hand?
I'm not going to worry, I'm not going to worry, I'm not going to worry. Did it work??

Aw, 3-A, you are the Little Engine That Could!!!!
My immediate supervisor was called today. She sent me an e-mail (I'm on the other side of the country doing depositions) to tell me that "against my self-interest, I gave you glowing reviews." Nice of her, I think - but I expected nothing less. She's an amazing supervisor and attorney. (Go, Navy!)
Yes, wilddog, we - and Sally Fields - really like you!

Still waiting to hear from others on my list to see who comprised the other 5 references (if they indeed are going up to 7).

Easy, wd, don't get ahead of yourself. But yeah, we like ya...
All my references emailed me last week, except two Judges who called. All, except one, contacted in a day. The emails were, of course, cryptic and befitting opposing counsel--saying things like "yeah, they called and I said who? A Judge, you got to be kidding..."
This is what happens when you run solo for so many years...faith, yes that's it!

I was called by Yale investigations today, so the calls are ongoing.

Am I the only one out here whose references have not been contacted? My interview was not scheduled until I called to inquire about it, so now I am paranoid.

You are not alone, Lee. I had my interview during the first week but my references have not been contacted.
