So... how did they make the "tentative decision" about who they want, ie whose references to check first? What is the criteria? Is it the interview? Social Security experience? Judicial experience? OPM's assigned score? Location, location, location....? A combination of all of this? I suppose it doesn't matter... the call will come, or not.

There comes a time where ya just gotta let things play out. As its been said many times before, don't over-think. I don't think there was a determination on which references to check first. I think Yale just went ahead and divvied up the work, as has been repeated throughout this thread. You are correct - - the call will come or the call will not come. Good luck to you and to all (and to me!). I know its tough waiting it out. Just imagine how tough it must be for disability claimants to wait for over a year (or much longer) for a hearing date and then have to wait for the written decision to come in the mail once the hearing is held. Their financial and medical well-being are on the line (cash benefits & health insurance). My fretting seems ridiculous in comparison.

Yes, Testtaker, point well taken. Thanks for the reminder of perspective.

I agree with the praise for Testtaker's comment. Anytime it is possible to empathize with people with whom you might not otherwise be able to understand, it makes sense. I hope everyone who feels anxiety remembers this feeling when (if) they become ALJs and have the responsibility to the claimants who appear before them.
