I just tried to call the number provided by funkyodar - no answer after several rings. I did send an e-mail on Sat. to ALJApplication@opm.gov and got an acknowledgement right away. This gives me such a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, since today is the 6th, in other words, D Day. One way or the other, of course I "carry on" but I had hoped to be truly done with this part of the process at least by now. Well friends...I just got the relief of my life in the form of an e-mail from the OPM ALJ office. The "fatal error" I thought I had made, in fact, I did not make! Wait...I need to re-read the e-mail again to be sure... YES!! I realize of course that there's no guarantee I'll be invited to the DC round but at least I'm still in the running. Like most of you, I really want one of these jobs, and am just over-the-moon happy that my SJT, WS and EA are submitted and certified! That's great news! Good luck!!

How about those that did go to DC? Does that mean, they will also have a second chance? I passed the written but not the structured interview.

How about those that did go to DC? Does that mean, they will also have a second chance? I passed the written but not the structured interview. If you filed an appeal OPM will review your SI part of the exam and determine if you should have scored more points. It will be much harder to win that appeal than a WD appeal, as the SI examiners are the ones who saw you and made the determination, it will be harder for someone new to review their notes and come to a different conclusion on your result. You will not be given a second SI. Either your appeal will be decided favorably or unfavorably. Sorry!

It's been a looooong time since I've checked this board. My online scores were not considered high enough to move to on the D.C. testing. I did not appeal this. Needless to say this post came as quite a shock when I read it. I just read all 24 pages of this thread, I want to make sure I've read it correctly.
1. They finally made it through all the appeal requests for the denial at step one (met qualifications). 2. People whose appeals were favorably decided were given the opportunity to take the online parts (SJT, etc.) between June 22 -July 6. 3. Of those who complete the online portion, if their combined score is high enough, they will be invited to take the written test in D.C.; probably August - September. 4. In addition, the rumor / unconfirmed email / etc. is that minimum score needed to move onto the exam in D.C. is being lowered. 5. As a result, some people who originally took the online portion and were told they were no longer being considered will also be contacted and invited to take the exam in D.C. at the same time. 6. These people (who were originally told their score was not high enough) will be invited to D.C., if their score now qualifies, regardless of whether they appealed the NOR or not.
What I am looking for is a confirmation that I am correct (or at least this is the current thinking of the board) on steps 5 & 6.
thanks for any help.

Think of it as one of the few times in your adult life that you actually get a do over in the real world.

I was a state court judge for 15 years. This is off topic but curious as to why you would want to be an SSA ALJ so badly after being a state court judge for 15 years? At least in my state, a state court judge position is generally more prestigious, better paid, more power, and more perks than ALJs.

At least in my state, a state court judge position is generally more prestigious, better paid, more power, and more perks than ALJs. Fair question. Judges in my state are elected, and I lost an election in 2008. I started my career as a Federal Law Clerk & US Govt attorney (8 yrs) and I've been back with the Feds since 2010. At this point in my career, I'd like to get at least 20 years in with the federal govt, and I'm much more inclined to decision-making rather than advocacy. I'm not well connected enough to get a US Magistrate Judge position, much less an Article III. So, ALJ is my option, and it really does appeal to me. BTW - judges in my state are NOT better paid than ALJs, which also is a factor.

If anyone has any thoughts on the following, it would be appreciated: I took the online portion of the ALJ exam in 2013, but did not score high enough to be invited to DC. I recently viewed this board and was surprised to learn I still might get an invite if my score is high enough to make the next cut. Here is my problem, I left my old firm two years ago and now have a new firm. The email address I was using for USA JOBS is now shut down (I left it open until about 6 months ago), and there would be no way for me to update USA JOBS because I can no longer access my account (shame on me - I no longer have my password) - when I use the "forgot my password function," the new password is sent to the old email account that has been shut down. Any thoughts on how to proceed would be appreciated. Thanks.

Travel email and travel confirmed. Fly to DC, interview, fly back home all same day. Maybe not the ideal way of going about it but I'm not going to complain one iota!!! Good luck to all!

Beenlurking, if you are referring to your interview next week, then your post is in the wrong thread. This thread is for folks waiting to get invited to DC for Phase 3 testing by OPM. I think your post might freak out those poor folks!!!
