Has anybody gotten a second interview from the posting for IJ and ACIJ openings this year?

Has anyone gotten a first interview from the most recent posting, apart from the anonymous email from Pixie?

I think a currently appointed ALJ should research the differences between IJ, AJ, and ALJ positions thoroughly and consider the unpredictable political winds before deciding to change positions. There is more to it than just commiserate pay, but I acknowledge each person has their own personal circumstances that may outweigh other factors. Good luck! I may be wrong, but I imagine sitting ALJ interest in IJ positions stems from the folks at OMHA who fear a RIF of their current positions. At least for some candidates. That is one situation where making the jump could make sense. But that person may be giving up the opportunity to be placed on OPM’s priority referral list in the event a RIF does take place. It’s a tough call…

There is no set schedule for new IJ training. They have it whenever they bring in a new class. Usually one week after EOD. Is the EOD date negotiable?

I guess it might be possible, but only to the extent that there might be a later new hiring class. That seems like a risky play- if you get the offer, you should be ready to accept it if you want it. Just my take.

Just my take. I totally agree. You may pass on an offered start date but don't be surprised if EOIR then chooses to pass on you.

Just my take. It’s possible. I know of someone who EOD 6 months after the original offer. But they had very compelling personal and professional circumstances. So I agree with my colleagues, it is risky play.

I see. Thanks for the responses. Is there a ballpark estimate how far down EOD dates tend to me, or does it vary widely?

Seems like it varies a lot.

Ps- I think the process is a lot shorter than it once was.

It doesn’t appear that there has been much movement as of late. Is it possible that EOIR is waiting until after the November elections to fill some of these spots? Obviously, the election results could have a significant impact on these agencies and the availability of some of these positions. Anybody have thoughts/opinions on this?

Also very interested if there has been any second round movement on the ACIJ interviews from the most recent posting. If anyone has any information on that, it would be greatly appreciated.

Had 2 interviews & reference checks (for the April posting). Was told the budget is definitely affecting hiring. Was also told they had no idea as to a timeline on hearing back.

From a board member:
"Anonymously, in response to gwild123’s inquiry:
I am aware of at least two people who have had second round interviews for the most recent IJ posting."

From a board member:
“I had a first and second interview for the most recent posting (IJ not ACIJ). Some references contacted but not all. The interview panel indicated hiring could be any time depending on agency needs and locations opening up and that the interview was good for one year.”

Bummer. Thanks. Thought I would at least get an initial interview. My geographic availability was very limited, though (not sure if that's in play or not). No immigration experience but lots of high-volume judicial experience in an adversarial setting.

Would it be possible for those who had second interviews for the IJ and ACIJ openings to share when their interviews were scheduled? I'm trying to determine whether all second interviews have been concluded or if there's still a chance EOIR will extend more invitations.

From a board member:
"I was contacted for a 2nd interview three days after the 1st interview. Both interviews were completed within 10 days of each other. 2nd panel advised that notifications with TJO's would happen by phone in the next couple of weeks.
Thank you."
