I think you mean the "hiring" manager. Pixie Well as long as they didn't mention Appli------ Manager 😉 You are getting close to the line there, Yellow One. Thank goodness all of that is behind us. What a nightmare (for me). Pixie

My apologies, I just realize I got autocorrected. Yes. I obviously meant the hiring manager. Has anyone seen any additional progress or movement beyond that email and referral? Any interviews? Follow-up emails? Thanks in advance for any info.

Anyone received anything after the email and being “referred to the ironing manager?” I think you mean the "hiring" manager. Pixie I think they were right the 1st time. Anyone who has been through the hiring process certainly feels like they’ve been ironed steamed and put through the ringer.

Are references being contacted before the second interview or after?

Does anyone know how EOIR handles negotiating a location once they extend an offer?

Pixie For you Newbies who have not a clue as to what this conversation between pumpkin and me refers to, below is the link to the App-------- Manager thread back 8 years ago. It is a topic that may only be referred to in its own thread. Don't know if OPM is still using it, but I hope not. Even though at the beginning of the thread, I provided links to numerous threads asking and answering any possible questions about the topic, this thread went on for another 93 pages of even more questions and answers. It was a dark period in the life of this forum, and in my life as I had to deal with it. Unfortunately, many of the beloved members who were active back then are no longer with us. gary and bayou were board favorites, but have moved on to other activities. Before I centralized discussion in one thread, every thread would be overtaken and consumed by this one topic. I have never seen people so obsessed with anything as they were with App-------- Manager. When I instituted the death penalty for mentioning it outside of its own thread, the board got back to normal–except for that one thread. So, for a study in obsessiveness, see the below link: aljdiscussion.proboards.com/thread/3821/answers-application-manager

Safe to say if we didn't get contacted for a first interview last week, we're out of luck this round? First time applicant with a very limited geographic availability. Thanks.

Are references being contacted before the second interview or after? I am not sure if it's always the same, but for me it was shortly after the 2nd interview.

Does anyone know the date of the upcoming IJ class? Anyone with tentative offers receive an EOD? On a related subject, is the IJ course offered just once a year? Would stink to get an offer and lose it because you cannot attend the course, which I understand is in NVA.

There is no set schedule for new IJ training. They have it whenever they bring in a new class. Usually one week after EOD.

Exactly. Sounds like there is a round of interviews going on based on the last couple listings in USAJobs. As soon as a class is chosen, a new training class will be scheduled. In FY2023, I think there were 4 such classes.

In FY2023, I think there were 4 such classes. Based on budget issues I don’t think they’ll be as many classes as last year. The money expected didn’t materialize so maybe there has to be a change in hiring? I don’t know, just guessing on reasons why there’s been silence so far this year.

There actually have been 2 in FY24 already- one in late October/early November, and a second one in May.
I have heard that there are ongoing interviews right now. Not sure when that will result in a new class, but it seems like things are still happening, albeit maybe not as quickly as the prior fiscal year.

Does anyone know if an ALJ at another agency who is currently an ALJ-3/step 5 or higher (pretty much topped out with location pay) would be paid at the IJ-3 or IJ-4 rate to make pay comparable (if offered an IJ position)? Or does EOIR/DOJ make you start over again at an IJ-1 rate of pay?

I think a currently appointed ALJ should research the differences between IJ, AJ, and ALJ positions thoroughly and consider the unpredictable political winds before deciding to change positions. There is more to it than just commiserate pay, but I acknowledge each person has their own personal circumstances that may outweigh other factors. Good luck!

I may be wrong, but I imagine sitting ALJ interest in IJ positions stems from the folks at OMHA who fear a RIF of their current positions. At least for some candidates.
