. . . My understanding is that USA Jobs is just the main vehicle used to apply to take the ALJ test. If OPM lets you test via direct communication (as with 10 pt vets applying outside of the normal window), I don't think USA Jobs matters, except of course if you eventually receive a rating and are able to apply to actual ALJ jobs, in which case the agency will post the openings on USA Jobs and forward any applicants' names to OPM to get a certification. But the NOR will come via email or U.S. Mail. Can any board vets confirm this process? For us non-vets, the JOA was posted on USAJOBS. There is a link in the posting on USAJOBS that you click on to submit your application. That link takes you to AM and you submit all documents pertaining to your application through AM. AM "updates" the status of your application as you proceed through the process. AM is the only way under the current process for non-vets to apply. Your part about applying for actual ALJ jobs through USAJOBS is wrong. You are doing the application part right now by going through this labyrinth constructed by OPM. An agency that wants to hire an ALJ doesn't post it on USAJOBS but rather, asks OPM for a certificate of eligibles for the location(s) it wishes to hire an ALJ. If that location is on your GAL that you selected when you submitted your application and your score is high enough in comparison to the other applicants who listed that location, your name will be sent to the agency by OPM. Then you go through the hiring process for that agency. If you didn't go through USAJOBS to start with, you won't do so at any point between now and being hired as an ALJ. I think that agencies that want to hire sitting ALJs post those jobs on USAJOBS but not for hires directly off the register.

So, if you get on the register, you don't ever have to go to USA Jobs ever again (for an ALJ job). Basically, once you're on the register, you're automatically considered for any certs for cities on your GAL, and they'll call you (email you) if you get on a cert? That's actually pretty convenient. Until the register is closed after the creation of a new register.

Tab is horrible. But it has its loyalists. Back in its heyday, before diet coke or many other diet drink options, my best friend's mom drank TAB. She told us it stood for Take And Break - as in, you Take my TAB, And I'll Break your behind. It'll always be Take And Break to me....

Instead of wreaking havoc I may have to settle for just spreading hate and discontent through out the board.

OR, is that just what you want everyone to think? You are a sly one, Pix! J No, we did go out last night. If you will notice the time I sent that message, it was about 11:30 pm Central, 12:30 am Eastern. I am seldom up that late unless we have gone out. Tonight I sit home with a shotgun on my lap waiting for transgressors. Pixie

Pixie As luck would have it the prevailing winds and currents will probably drive me too far off shore to have cell phone coverage tonight, so there is no need to worry about me relaeasing any information obtained as a result of FOIA requests from OPM.

Yesterday, I received 2 emails: one from the aljapplication email noting a changed status and nothing more. I later received an email that referenced AM. Out of curiosity, I went into AM and there is no reference in there to the ALJ application process.
The thing that I find a bit surprising is that I haven't received any notice to move to the online component. I appreciate that they likely need to validate that I qualify, but the other emails I've received have been timely.
I completed the recent round of testing. I missed the initial open application period in April but applied in November as a 10 point vet. After submitting my application and supporting materials to the aljapplication email, I got one of those weird form emails that looks like it came from a robot. Basically, you just have to wait for them to invite you to take the online test (or not). If so, you'll get an email giving you X days to do it, with the link. If not, I suppose you'll get a robot email telling you why not along with an explanation of any appeal rights. If you do well enough on the online component, you'll get two emails - one telling you you passed and to wait for another email (I think mine came the same day) that will invite you to DC with testing dates. I went to DC and tested. I have never gotten any emails about application manager. I do have a USA Jobs account, but like you I didn't apply through USA Jobs. Mail. Can any board vets confirm this process?dw, thank you very much for confirming what I believed to be true. I've actually received an NOR to tell me that despite having graduated law school over 20 years ago, I did not have 7 years experience. It came by email.
That evening I revised my application to reflect where I thought I erred in explaining my experience and resubmitted the following day. That was March 9th. I'm still waiting for a response.

It took me almost 2 years to get an answer on my appeal for the same issue in the 2013 application, so don't hold your breath. All the information came to me by e-mail.
