I think a vast portion of the country is under a heat bowl. The news reported only 2 states did not go over 90 degrees today: Washington and Alaska.

Report from my side of the training rooms - We got to review all the concepts of the week again, and we got some time to go over our own real cases armed with the 1st week's training. That was helpful. We had recess in the building foyer while a guy with an incredible eye placed us in position for a group photo at the end of the training. And we had another round of ODAR Jeopardy - this time for the Big Prize. Luckily, I sit near an awesome insider that had all the answers AND in the statutory language on the tip of his/her tongue! We bid adieu to the first week trainers, people who live close enough to go home for the weekend bugged out of town, and those of us who are left are planning our weekends. Many of us are looking forward to sleeping in a little. No marshmallow roasts or franks-on-a-stick at judge camp, but I can verify that Gaidin is not only a multi-talented pollmaker, raconteur, and all-around-good-guy, he is also a passable chef!

Yup - DC area gets really hot- it's going to be over 100 this weekend plus the humidity is high. We started in today with warnings about heat stroke and if someone is not sweating - well basically that means rush them to the hospital... stay inside ac or suggest you stay submerged in a pool. Do not try to enjoy anything outside. Next stage in weather here will air quality warnings - those basically are - folks do not try to breathe outside.

Skype is the new IM and replaced Lync. If you do not know what I am addressing, let go of the firehouse and breath. If you don't have your laptop you can't (or at least I don't know how to) access Skype with the room's computers. Many of us do not have our laptops with us. Our seriously awesome HO IT guys worked like dogs to get my laptop ready for me to take to our training in late Feb but in the end were not able to do so. I was disappointed but later was kinda glad - I had more than adequate access to all I needed on the computers provided in the training rooms at FC and didn't have the hassle of worrying about/taking care of my own. As for personal stuff, I used the Business Center at the hotel which is small and far from perfect but did the job.

Too bad Bob's Famous Ice Cream is no more..... I still want to meet the certain person who called me. Do you think he and the other person (she) will visit us?

When he visited my class for orientation, it was during the first week--maybe the first day, but he has changed jobs since then. If you have had a visit from personnel, and it wasn't him, I doubt he will be giving you a visit. Pixie

Gaiden,
Thanks for the report! Glad to hear everyone is doing well and learning useful information. As long as you guys don't start calling yourselves Pirates and Ninjas (names already taken by a previous class) or start looking for Pokemon Go in Skyline Tower, I think you'll do just fine.
Have fun and we're looking forward to you and your classmates' support starting in August!

(This was going to be my first suggestion but I liked the WSS reference) Yankees and Dodgers? Warriors and Mavericks? Red Wings and Panthers? I could go on...

Report from the trenches:
It's hot and stuffy in both of the training rooms today. People fanning themselves and yawning all over the place.
Seems like just as we've managed one set of acronyms, they throw a new set of word salad our way.
The people I'm training with have an amazing set of backgrounds and talents and experiences. Today we learned that one has been charged by an elephant, several have jumped out of perfectly good airplanes just for fun, and many of us like wine.

Thanks for the update LL2. Sometimes the feds turn off the AC over the weekend, and in these heat waves, every Monday is a steam bath in the office until the AC catches up.
Kinda stupid, since I don't see how this is a 'green' initiative when the AC units then have to run even harder on Monday to cool the buildings down, but I didn't make the rule.

I like to whine too; I know better than to leave an airplane mid-flight; and the only elephant I've been charged by is Donald J. Trump. Jury's still out on whether I'll manage to dodge that elephant.

I worked for 23 years in a federal building designed by a very famous architect that was almost always too hot in the winter and too cold in the summer.
