Perhaps it would be advisable to move this discussion to a more appropriate thread. This should be a happy thread about the trials and tribulations of Baby Judge school. You guys are kind of killing the mood.
So Newbie ALJs, what did you do this weekend? A bachelorette party sounds fun. Having taken one of these Potomac River cruises, AKA The Booze Cruise, in another life, I suspect it was not as mild as Judge G suggests. Who swung from the chandeliers? Did anyone fall in? Was there a stripper? C'mon, we want details!!

I'm one of "those people" who spent a bunch of years in business prior to law school - and I developed a theory that has yet to be proven false:
ATTORNEYS and Doctors are the World's Worst Managers.
No Question. Hands Down.
There are myriad reasons, including a penchant for perfection (versus the business model of Lou Gehrig's batting average), management by NOT walking around, inadvertent "lawyer speak," and sometimes timid - unless we are on our stage.
We look at the process of management as a collateral duty and a general pain in the butt.
Just a Monday morning observation when I have nothing really worthwhile to offer.
I may be mistaken.
BTW - anotherfed is absolutely correct in the above post!

agree, this is too diverse of topic to continue here. But I think bowser and I are arguing two sides of the same coin. As I see his arguments they go to agency management/staffing/personnel.
As such we ALJs have little to no involvement in same; we get what we get.
Some offices are great and run like clocks, others appear to be more like a DMV kiosk located inside a Walmart.
it is what it is.

I agree with anotherfed and others. Let's stick to discussions of training and to shibboleths (Houston, Siasconset, Leicester) here. I also agree with Pixie that discussions about staff and their abilities/proclivities will not end well. A little judicial temperament, please.
Respectfully, Tom B

I just assumed all of these analytical statistic-laden posts were added to this thread to remind the baby judges how glad they were to have successfully run the LBMT gauntlet.

Ooh! Inquiring minds want to know! I don't think she wants much inquiry on the topic. I have nothing to hide. We were all in our rooms at 8 pm every night, so we could study the material for the next day. Every day at lunch, we had discussions about the 5 step process, and debated about whether a limitation on crouching was work preclusive. When we were feeling particularly frisky, we would analyze the philosophical question about whether there were truly any one-armed jobs in the national economy.

Paul Wittgenstein. The Fugitive (maybe that's a bad example).

Funny, that is basically the same story I gave when asked. Pixie
