for us current federal employees, what is the relocation package (in general)? How user friendly is the process?

Has anyone, especially those with April start dates, received anything on relocation?

I called Falls Church travel staff last week because, for current SSA employees, the househunting trip and temporary quarters must be specifically authorized as part of the travel authorization, and I wanted to request such approval. The nice lady who returned my call indicated they are waiting for an official list before they send relocation information. She said the relocation information will be sent by email and there will be documents to be completed/returned by the newly hired ALJs. (I didn't ask if all this holds true for non-SSA new hires.) Another thread indicated "acceptance packages" are being mailed today; hopefully, the official list will be going to Travel soon.

I received a package from SSA in today's mail, but no relocation information. Just many forms to fill out.

non-ssa employee. forms are your standard employment forms. they give you plenty of time to do it.

Have any SSA employees received a package from SSA? Or are the "standard employment forms" just those necessary to put newly hired folks on the federal payroll?

A friend told me that someone they know turned down an offer as recently as this past Tuesday. I thought all offers were supposed to be accepted or declined by last Friday? This is frustrating because we don't get the relocation packages until all offers have been finalized.

My wife just called to say we got our package via U.S. Mail. I am a government attorney with SSA and the package still contains all the forms. She said no specific information about Baltimore or relocation was in the package, just dates of reporting. Nonetheless, it is some sort of official notice that I really got the ALJ job, other than an e-mail. I will call that progress, heh heh.

I received an employment (not relocation) package today by mail. The cover letter from Pat Rocheford directs me to contact my Regional Travel Coordinator for information on travel instructions to training. It also states that, for civilian Federal Government employees, "the Government will pay full relocation costs for you and your family incident to your change of duty sttion as authorized by the Federal Government Travel Regulations." I am directed to contact an individual, if I have not heard from the Travel and Payroll office by the time I receive this letter. You can bet I will be contacting that person first thing in the morning!

I found the plain english version of SSA's relocation package online. I am guessing it is intranet not internet, but at least it may help those Feds already in SSA figure out some of the benefits available. The biggest thing to remember is not to do anything until you get an authorization, i.e. don't list your house now or it can kill the benefit. eis.ba.ssa.gov/ofpo/travel/relocationpolicy/reloguide/relotablecont.htm

Has anybody who does not work for SSA and is a federal government hire gotten a relocation package? I've tried to contact the guy and I think I'm being ignored. [Or at least on hold.]
