OCALJ is asking ALJs and HODs to sit on interview panels for that week.

So interviews, for those who may need them, are starting in 2 months...
First, won't they send out the list of cities where they will be hiring that correlate with cities the candidate picked?
Isn't that what they did for the last hire before setting the interview? What is the best estimate of when that might be? Seems like it will have to be pretty soon to get the cities confirmed and interviews set by May 12.....

It did not take very long for 400+ interviews to be scheduled the last time. Now they will only have to see the people whose names did not get onto the last cert. I will not get too invested in when SSA will request the new cert since they are a little busy dealing with the 144 that need info on relocation and training.

So interviews, for those who may need them, are starting in 2 months... Allegedly. Maybe. Nothing official has been announced. Not necessarily. OPM knows for what geographic locations you have indicated availability. When SSA sends to OPM for a Certificate off the Register, they will be asking for names which match their prospective fill. OPM will provide them a Cert containing the first 90-100 names off the Register that match the geographic locations for which SSA has indicated an intent to fill. This past time, SSA gave everyone a chance to limit their availability - this was an SSA decision, NOT an OPM decision. As far as OPM is concerned, you are still available for all the locations for which you indicated availability when you submitted your application. SSA may well have been trying to narrow their work when they gave us all a chance to pull cities from our list. Conversely, SSA may well send out an FEAI like they did last time. I'm just saying they don't have to. Who knows ? It will happen if and when it happens. There is no reason to wrap ourselves around an axel by trying to second-guess it.

Rumor has it that interviews for the new cert are occuring May 12 -16th. I have had a few people contact me privately to tell me that there were 133 new hires and 3 transfers in from other agencies for a total of 136 (there were 144 offers with 8 declinations) and that the plan is still to hire the 175; the new cert would be for 39 ALJs, and the cert will include largely different locations. (Hey, lookie here, PatriotsFan!!!)I also heard, AGAIN - and for the 4th time, that there is one additional group of 25-39 ALJs coming in August--interview dates set for May 12-16 of this year, and that THAT class (if, indeed, all this is true,) would start on the 4th of August. *** Breathe deep the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bedsitter people look back and lament Another day's useless energy spent. . . . Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colors from our sight. Red is grey and yellow white, But we decide which is right. And which is an illusion? (Moody Blues, "Late Lament")

If 8 people declined, why didn't they move to number 2 or 3 on the list?

If 8 people declined, why didn't they move to number 2 or 3 on the list? There is no rule that they have to do so. They can, but they can also determine that the fill did not take place from the cert and roll the slots over to a new hire.

I was contacted yesterday for teaching the third week of training August 18. I guess this means the certification will be out soon.

I know of one ALJ that was just offered a transfer to Portland from the transfer list. This must be in anticipation of the new cert.
Amended: Portland, Oregon, to be precise.

Something screwy is going on with the application manager - there's new info on the package detail dated 3/25/08.
I was just checking the application manager, to see if I could somehow call up the job description to see what it said about geographical preferences. I had the entire appication saved as a .pdf file, but I had a hard drive crash 2 weeks ago and lost all my personal data (I know, I know, I should've backed up the personal stuff). I thought perhaps checking out application manager and clicking around might bring up the old job description. I couldn't find it. But I did find something very interesting on my Package Detail page...
A document dated 3/25/08 is listed, stating it was an availability letter. However, when I clicked on VIEW, it showed me the same letter from 12/5/07 - - only it said 3/25/08 at top. It listed the same one geographical location that was listed in 12/07 and it said I had to respond no later than 12/12/07. The vacancy ID and certificate # were the same as the 12/07 FEAI.
I checked my e-mail and there's nothing there. I'm not sure what's going on here! Anyone else have this on their Package Detail page on Application Manager?

I checked and I too have a 3/25/2008 letter that reads the same as the December update letter.

I sent an e-mail to aljapplication@opm.gov. Let's see what happens. I'll keep checking my e-mail.

My package detail show the same. I haven't checked Application Manager in several weeks, so I can't even eliminate the possibility that a daily entry (with the day's date) like this has been appearing for a while. I suppose this could have something to do with a legality regarding SSA's decision to not offer jobs to second candidates. In light of the mistakes made (location availability) in the notification of the original certificate, this development could foreshadow just about anything. However, I am skeptical that this concerns the new certificate because we have heard about only one transfer offer of late. Also, I have received no email that would be associated with an availability letter.
I just had another thought. They may be notifying us of our non-selection regarding the certificate.

Testaker, I have the same letter. But, mine, though dated 3/25/08 indicates a response is due by 12/12/07. It also states I must respond even if I responded to the 11/30/07 Inquiry. I also was a one-place applicant w/an 80-something score. I've since made other plans ;D so don't think I would even accept my lone location at this point...

As I said, its the same letter as 12/05/07. Mine said the same thing. Let's see if we get an e-mail from SSA. If so, they'll have to correct the FEAI (just as they had to correct the 11/30/07 FEIA). Either that or they just feel like being sadistic! Or, as Podar suggested, this is some kind of botched rejection letter.

Someone from SSA in Virginia returned my call. She said that the new cert is NOT YET OUT and they have no idea what the heck OPM did. I told her it was a carbon copy of the 12/07 letter. She said she was going to check it out.
She advised me to e-mail OPM, which I had already done. By the way, OPM replied: "We have received your recent message addressed to the ALJ Application Help Desk and are working on a response."
The nice woman from SSA said that there is indeed a timeline for the new cert. The woman I spoke with said it should be out in "about" two weeks.

Interesting. My Application Manager contained all of the changes listed above, i.e. 3/25/08 letter with December response date. Now, though -- twenty minutes later -- Application Manager has reversed the action and no 3/25/08 date is shown.

Same for me. As if it was never there. I guess this is the "response" OPM was working on.
Maybe this happens frequently but no one checks the page these days. I think someone was working on the register and hit a wrong button. I think some action to clean up after the SSA certificate would be most likely. Maybe they'll tell us soon that we didn't get selected.
