All this discussion about the inner workings of music makes me realize I don't know sh#t form Shinola when it comes to music. A Shinola reference immediately identifies you as a Marine. Yes? Yes sir colonel. 13 years 12 days. Enlisted in 9/79 ,honorably discharged 9/92. Last duty station was J-3 Centcom at Macdill AFB Tampa. I surely miss those days!

Did you know that there are current professions that are literally only 3 to 7 minutes away from extinction as we digress here? Commercial airline pilots. Pilots of Boeing 777's spend less than 7 minutes on average actually piloting the jets; Airbus pilots spend less than 3 minutes on average actually piloting the jets. There is currently no physical reason for the presence of multiple pilots (a/k/a "SPO" single pilot operations theory) on such jets save for faux-mental safety appearance reasons to traveling passengers. ref: American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Duke University, Cummings, Stimpson and Clammans. Yes, that is why the virtual trainer is such a booming business. Think about it: 747 flight from LAX to Melbourne is one take off and one landing. Two pilots. They do that two or three times a month, and that is all the flying they do. If the captain chooses to take the landings, the pilot has none for the month. There are different crews each flight, so no way to alternate. The takeoffs are easier than the landings. Proficiency is maintained in the trainer.

Did you run across General Stiner while you were there? Don't recall the name. I worked in ground ops inside the SCIF under USMC Colonel Tony Gain. J-3 was headed by AF Major General Moore. Schwarzkopf Jr. was the CINC.

There is currently no physical reason for the presence of multiple pilots. The computer avionics are sophisticated to the degree that you don't really need a human pilot at all. Until you do.

Stiner is a HOF Ranger.
Guy commanded the JSOC, 82nd, XVIIIth Airborne AND SOCOM. As he was the 2nd JSOC commander and 2nd SOCOM commander, it was almost as if they created those commands for him.

They probably did as he got 4 stars. He was a friend of mine back before he got starred. He was the best and finest officer I ever knew. I'm glad to hear of others who crossed paths with him. I had his phone number and address a while back, but put off calling him as I had never contacted a 4 star before. Now I can't put my hands on it. I know the town where he lives and have contact info for his brother whom I knew a little bit, so perhaps all is not lost.

Pixie -- believe it or not, 4 stars are real people too (most of them, anyway!). You should call his brother and reconnect. General Stiner is originally from Tennessee -- so he has great manners!

Yes, he has great manners. He is a true gentleman. He is from a small town in Tennessee. Last I heard, both he and his brother, Tom, were living there on, of all things, General Stiner Road. What a great leader he was. The best I ever knew. Pixie

Following up on @ready-now!'s post in the New Certs thread...did you know that if you tap a Heinz 57 ketchup bottle on the raised 57 logo on the side of the bottle, the ketchup will come out faster?
While I don't believe that will work for cert emails, it's your fun fact for the day - you're welcome.

This thread was started by bayou back in 2017 when times were simpler. It has a bunch of little known facts scattered throughout its 12 pages. As there has been little to no discussion about sharks in quite awhile, I thought I would post this info I saw in the paper this morning: Florida Today USA TODAY NETWORK – FLORIDA "MELBOURNE, Fla. – The coronavirus pandemic had one pearly white lining this year: fewer shark attacks. With fewer people in the water to bite, shark attacks have dropped worldwide, likely because of all the closed beaches and widespread quarantines, experts at the University of Florida’s International Shark Attack File suspect. . . . . Florida had tallied eight bites by mid-June in 2019 and seven in 2018. This year, experts have confirmed two minor bites in the state thus far, one each in Duval and Brevard counties. On April 7, Stacy Orosz was bitten on her foot and ankle by a shark while she and her husband paddled out past the break and were sitting on their surfboards about 10a.m. off of Cocoa Beach. Orosz estimated the bite came from a 6-foot bull shark." So while it is now less dangerous to go into the water off the Florida beaches, it still isn't safe. Stay out of the water. Better yet, don't even go to the state of Florida! Pixie

And she only died a few days ago. When I read your post in this thread about her, I wondered if she were still alive. She almost was.
Good to see you again. Pixie
