Never mind. New AG already named. Sorry to all interested Let's not be so hasty....... nominees have been pulled and YOU could be just what they want.........
Big question is how will the eventual AG feel about ALJ's, the hiring & firing thereof.

Then there's regression--have a good old hissy fit, pound your fists on the floor or wall, kick your feat, scream 'til you're exhausted.
then rifle through the 9,000 jobs for attorneys with contract experience or labor/mspb/EEO experience
then decide the world is ready for a a self help guru for lawyers, and that's your new profession: the attorney whisperer

"Rumor" also has it that Gen. Kelly's post will soon be available. Although I have heard that rumor for the past 16+ months. Personally, I think Kelly will outlast EVERYONE in this Admin.... .

I hear General Abizaid is coming back so perhaps it's a recognition that adults in the room, however mean, nasty, horrible, hate them hate them hate them, never wanna see 'em again! are, they are necessary. However, looks like FLOTUS has been snarked at one too many times by a soon-to-be-former national security staffer so that may be an additional opening.

I will again comment that many of us are federal employees with speech restrictions and cannot engage in this type of discussion. Can we go back to posting jobs?

Thank you, foghorn, for starting this useful thread for those seeking alternative federal government employment. And for your unique contributions to this forum. As someone who has camped out at Kirby Cove, I really appreciate oblique references and the noise. You have helped more than you will ever know. Happy Thanksgiving!

I think one has applied to too many jobs when they have buried in their brains names of hr contact people at most federal agencies. I looked at the interior job posting and thought I have interacted with Erica before (the named HR. Intact)

We all have certain people that have been referenced, but I think it would be numbers of agencies. But I've gotten to writing Hello again, Ms. , if it's someone I've interacted with in the past, especially if they were pleasant. Some day you may need information and if they like you they may give the information you need to you.
On the other hand I almost feel sheepish but then realize--to them you're just another applicant, perhaps (hopefully) not viewed as whiny, but otherwise no judgment other than "market must be tough if they're still around."
I wonder if certain sections of DOJ civil start mumbling my cover letter as they scan it before referring it to the kingdom of silence. Hopefully they'll figure "let's get him through the system so we either hire him or he gives up," but I also realize that they may not have time to remember everyone other than a "sounds familiar" reaction--because they aren't invested in the application as we are.
All the best to you and everyone who's on the USA jobs application treadmill.
A few places seem to want a "narrative" in addition to the cover letter and detailed resume. Any thoughts as to what they want or don't want in a "narrative?"

I can't speak as to narratives, but I can speak to the value of polite persistence to which I attribute my landing my federal job when I did. The position I initially applied for went to a different candidate and I received my non-selection notice. A few weeks later that same office reached back out and asked me to complete the background check. In the interim, another attorney chose to transfer, creating an additional slot. The legal assistant I had interacted with apparently suggested the hiring manager give my application another look as I had maintained regular contact with the office expressing interest.

Wiesbaden--THE r & r center, land of the big PX (or used to be when we were stationed in Europe). Needs a contract attorney--a great place to hang out while you wait for the ALJ michigas to get settled. Alas it is but a GS 13 but relocation expenses are a yes. www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/518678700
