If you're and attorney and on furlough you may be eligible for free CLE from the ABA! Maybe not as good a a free beach vacation but.....gotta have the CLE so why not for free? www.abajournal.com/news/article/lawyers-impacted-by-the-government-shutdown-offered-free-cle-by-the-abaSpeaking of beaches if you are on furlough and aren't totally stretched might be the time to head to an off-season beach--prices cn be way cheap! Also a good time to do all that medication, mindfulness, yoga, and fitness stuff you were thinking about. Or look for per diem work if allowed to?

Two questions- do you have inside info that would make someone comfortable that they could go away without fear of being summoned back to work the next day (not only if the shutdown ends, but if they are suddenly determined to be "essential") More importantly- what do you mean by it being a good time to do all that medication you were thinking about?

I’m assuming foghorn means meditation, but it also seems like a good time to take a few Xannies and chill out for a day.

Meditation. Should have gotten that from context, but medication kind of fit too. Ah, autocorrect though art a heartless bastard.

UPDATE: direct deposit has now appeared. Payday.
Despite assurances SSA folks would be paid, no direct deposit yet into my bank account. Normally the direct deposit would show by now on payday.
So, before you start writing checks, better verify that you actually did get paid.

Hope springs eternal.
Direct deposit typically credits to my account sometime between 2 AM and 3 AM on payday. It did not credit to my account until 6:45 AM today. But, thankfully, it is there.

If you have any friends who are going to law school, tell them to pick the District of Columbia as their first bar exam.
Maximum reciprocity, which is based on the jurisdiction of original admission, and no CLE.

I really enjoyed that 2013 furlough when I was with a different agency. I fixed things in my house, visited friends, read a whole mess of novels. Sigh.

Except for those signed up to telework. OMHA teleworkers don't have to work when federal offices are closed. Agency policy. It would be different if there was just a delay.

Big kudos to TSA and air traffic control. They were public face of the shutdown and did great with no big public outrage over how they reacted but generated a great deal of sympathy for Federal workers over the 30+ days.

About to 20% of air traffic controllers are eligible to retire right now. It has to be going through the minds of retirement eligibles that if they'd been retired 6 weeks ago, they'd have avoided the stress of working without pay. From the article: "The FAA “stopped addressing risk” because the office that receives voluntary reporting of air tower mistakes was on furlough, said Rinaldi, who spent 16 years working in the control tower at Washington Dulles Airport."

In our office, there is about an even split as to whether there will be another partial shutdown in 2 weeks. But, of more concern, is that when the debt ceiling issue comes up in the springs, the entire government could shut down. Hopefully, the adults will come together and this shall not be a problem.

And here's hoping the sun will rise in the west. That's about as likely as the adults coming together to reach resolution in the spring. Pixie
