I think, first things first, an apology to emby might be in order. Not wanting to stir the pot too much, so this is the last I’ll say about it. But I thought it was worth saying. Questions like these you posted are all good questions — the very type of thing we could/would want to discuss even before the official announcement of the EO. This is exactly why I think the sharing of intel here should never be discouraged. The fact the intel turned out to be good is irrelevant. It was a reckless thing to disseminate whether true or not. If true, it may have burned a source in the administration. Multiple people might have been suspected of a leak even of not guilty of one. LOL. And yes, I'm LOL'ing or (L'ingOL, if you prefer) on an adult message board. First you demand some accountability by wondering where he got the info. Then you said absent a source, it's a reckless rumor that could have been written by the Onion. Now that your original point has been shown to be baseless due to this EO coming out, your argument has turned to the OP being reckless by possibly outing a WH source, the very thing you originally asked for on this thread before brushing the OP aside for lack of a source. I do enjoy your logical backbends on this board.

Guys, give up the bickering about whether the original post was reckless.
A lot of people just got some very bad news.
Years of waiting and work just vanished.
So, maybe we can be productive.

There is a new thread on the termination of the existing ALJ register. Should that just be discussed within this thread? There is also information about the current procedures for adverse actions against ALJs being applicable for those in the competitive and excepted service alike.

I’m waiting for Pixie to make me feel better. It feels like it’s all over. This board and everything.

I don't have any vested interest in the register, but I want to offer those of you on the register, as well as those of you hoping to be on the register, my condolences. If this plays out the way I'm reading on here it would be a very bitter pill to swallow. I've been an enthusiastic reader of this board for a couple of years now, and I'd hate to see it go away, but that's nothing compared to losing out on the hope of being one of the lucky ones to get the call.

If this comes to a worst case scenario, I'm just gotta apply to the individual openings as they happen. And apply. And apply. My wife is devastated, though, as am I, at the loss of a chance for a family move this year.

Crazy.....so any guesses on what the new selection process will look like? As an EO, the next President could simply toss this one, right and we go right back to where we started? Sickening......

I'm not going to make any decisions about anything at the moment because SSA still needs to hire some ALJs. Perhaps this is good for the SSA insiders. Perhaps this is also good for me just getting appointed where I am.

As my friend just texted me when I told her the news..."he just ruins everything he turns his attention to, doesn't he?"

I tested this last go-around, so am in the group that won’t get a score.
I’m very happy at my current job, but I have wanted to be a Judge for a long time. This was really the only way for that to be a reality, and like others, I will be looking at USAJOBS to apply to individual openings as they arise (like how it is for Immigration Judges). This assumes I meet whatever quals SSA puts up (and if intimate familiarity with SSA regs is a pre-req., as a non-SSA fed, I’m not looking too good on that front).
I’m irritated, but it was a long-shot to begin with. Fortunately for me, I’m local to DC, so at least I didn’t have to spend much out-of-pocket to test. It cost me a couple of days of annual leave and one dry-cleaning bill for my “good suit.” I’m sorry for those who had to fly and pay for a hotel.
I hope some of you got to enjoy DC, at any rate.

That is an interesting take on the EO. It is for the protection of the ALJs! He could have just issued an EO ordering the agency heads to ratify or otherwise appoint their existing ALJs without blowing up the process.
