If I were a betting man..... I would guess that if it posts next week, it will be Monday or Tuesday.... it is the end of the month for reporting purposes across the Agency .... I can't imagine it drops any later than Wednesday. I guess this aged well đ

Good luck to you my friend. My numbers aren't as high as yours but a ping pong ball with my name on it is also currently bouncing around in the lottery machine waiting to be pulled. I suspect there's 50 apps from OGC attorneys that have litigated these cases in actual court for 10 plus years that would laugh at your decision writing experience and another 50 plus apps from GS, SAA, and HODs that were you before they got promoted and there's prob 1 of you in each of the 150 plus hearing offices. All this for 25 slots. Just because I like chaos I'm hoping SCOTUS overturns Chevron deference in American Hospital Association v. Becerra so us veterans can challenge OPM's "positive factor" regulation. I think it's administratively feasible to hire every qualified veteran. DC circuit has already said agencies have to follow veterans preference as far as administratively feasible for excepted service but gave OPM Chevron deference in determining that considering preference as a positive factor was as far as administratively feasible. Blacks law dictionary defines feasible as something that is capable of being accomplished. Certainly hiring qualified veterans, even minimally qualified veterans, is capable of being accomplished. Come on Gorsuch you know you want to stick it to the administrative state. Rally the troops! Solid points all. Once again, DWs are the bottom of the pecking order. I was thinking more in terms of us vs outside hires. Honest question - is SSA decision writing looked upon more favorably than outside litigation experience when evaluating ALJ candidates? I've heard the opposite is true at OMHA. Decision writers there are rarely promoted directly to ALJs

The thing is no one really knows because this is the first application since the process changed entirely. A lot of faces in Falls Church have also changed since the last hiring.

It could. But I wouldn't hold my breath. They are very different agencies and the numbers involved are magnitudes different.

My bad! Didn't mean to step in it đŹ Just wondering if DW's had a clearer path to an ALJ position at OHO. What seems to be the scuttlebutt in these threads is that SSA has longed for the ability to hire its own people outside of the OPM testing process. This is their first hiring announcement (technically second, but no one was actually hired the last time) since the OPM requirement went away. I trust the experience of many on here when they say that there will likely be a push to hire SSA OHO managerial attorneys who are known quantities to the hiring committee (all of whom would have been decision writers at one point). If that pans out? Anyone's guess. As far as if there should be a priority on writers vs. outside litigators? This is one of the stickiest debates in the forum, so I'll tread lightly. As I noted a few posts back, I think a mix of experiences is best.

I was thinking more in terms of us vs outside hires. DWs arenât at the bottom of that pecking order, at least as far as OGC attorneys or SAAs go. OGC attorneys are not under the umbrella of OHO, so theyâre not known quantities. Now that may not be entirely accurate anymore with the CALJ being former OGC. SAAs arenât going to have an advantage over a more productive or well-liked AA, either. If youâre out performing a SAA then youâll have a better shot barring some personal connection. However, I tend to think the favored children are known company men and women. Not only HODs and GSs, but also the numerous regional attorneys, attorneys at HQ, and even AAJs. Itâs a lot of competition for few spots this time around. Iâm interested to see what happens, though. I donât believe I would have gotten the job under the current announcement despite having high productivity with a high affirmation rate as an AA. I do sincerely hope that I and those who share my thoughts about hiring management favorites are wrong. As far as insiders vs outsiders, it doesnât really matter other than advocating for whichever side youâre on. There are plenty of insiders and outsiders that are great at the job, plenty that are okay, and plenty that have little business doing it. What matters is what you do after you get the job. If you treat people well, work hard, learn from mistakes or those with more experience than you, and donât get infected by black robe fever, youâll do well regardless of your background.

(1) I donât think SSA would have posted this on USA Jobs at noonish Eastern time during the week and limited it to 1000 if they were interested in outsiders. All of the outsiders were at non govt work while all of the insiders got emails from basically everyone they were friends with ssa.gov. Better or worse to be an insiderâŚ? Either. Itâs what SSA wants (or at least think they want). But insiders deserve the edge becauseâŚâŚ.. (2) SSA attorney advisors are the red-headed step-children of the federal government: Most are GS12s; Many have supervisors who are not attorneys; and the lack of ALJ, Supe, and Sr Atty hiring means that depending on office, most AAs are basically lifers. Iâm partially kidding as an AA insider.

Is this where you can ask questions about Applications Manager? How long do you want your ban to last? I'm thinking 10 days is about right. I will consider a lesser sentence, but I am serious about this AM, as you ought to know. Pixie

I would argue first offense only warrants 5 days and I should get 2 days credit for changing my avatar from the Great White shark to the current cute little fishy.

AM = Application Manager.
You didn't change your avatar, I did it. You actually had no avatar, so I gave you one. But you do get credit for leaving it as it is. Pixie

I hadnât been on in awhile prior to recent events. Dang. I would have sworn I changed it. Getting old. Hey, hold on a second, if you can change my avatar, what else can you change? How do we know you didnât post that poorly thought out and disrespectful (yet, meant as a joke) post about AM under my name? I demand an investigation prior to imposition of any punishment. Attica, Attica. BTW, thanks for clarif on âAM.â So many acronyms in life now. I sometimes get punchy. Somebody call me if SSA posts a new job listing while I am sitting in the corner. Maybe the AM folks are hiring?

OoohhhhhâŚ..where is it better to work/write/be an ALJ - OMHA or OHO. AaannnndddddâŚ..fight . Good luck to all who threw their names in the hat. FYI - given our current receivables and attrition donât expect an OMHA ALJ opportunity to post until FY24 at the earliest (just my wag).
