Help me brainstorm. I feel like if I am fortunate enough to get the call, my brain will immediately stop functioning and I will forget everything I meant to ask, let alone need to ask. So, during the initial phone call, what is information that the newbie hire needs to know? And likewise, perhaps a different list, what would be information that would be generally useful for the board? It may be that the entire phone call is just the offer and acceptance with an instruction to watch my email for more to come, but in case it’s not… Things I would want to know (assuming I get the call): 1) HR contact name, number, email and best way to get ahold of them 2) Start date (and if it’s contingent on anything, like “we’d like you to start on xxxx, provided we can get all of your paperwork squared away.”) 3) Location (how/when/who will provide info about telework) 4) Contact name/number for HOCALJ, HOD, and whomever else I need to get in contact with prior to start date 5) Starting salary (confirm it’s above current GS base salary) 6) Anything that I need to do/take action on/next steps/timeline 7) Any details on training (dates, location, etc.) Things I think the board would want to know: 1) How many offers are being made in total? Are there backups if people decline? 2) How many offers have been made already? How many people are left to call? 3) How many people from HR are making the calls? When do they expect to finish, i.e., how many days do they expect to be making calls? 4) Are candidates being offered their first choice location? Are locations negotiable? 5) Are the calls being done in any particular order? Alphabetically by last name? (good for me, since my name starts with “A,” but bad for voyager all the way down at “V”) East to West? By score? Randomly? What other questions would be good to ask? I’m imagining it’s going to be like at the doctor’s office and I’ll wish someone was there to take notes because it’ll all be going right over my head. I hope I get the chance to find out. Too many good questions…. I should better change my name😰

FWIW I also heard the word “imminent” used today in a second hand report of what was happening on the ALJ front. I didn’t interview, but I’m excited for y’all and I hope it happens as imminently as possible! Good luck!

Unless things are very different, you will get a call with an offer for a specific location (not negotiable; it's what takes so long figuring out which candidates to place in what office). Thereafter, your HOCALJ will reach out to you with office specific information. It used to be that you could not telework your first 12 months but assuming we are still on this extended telework/reentry plan when new judges are onboarded, I gather those rules would apply.

So if the calls are happening very soon, are we to assume it is just the 25 or have additional positions already been approved?

So if the calls are happening very soon, are we to assume it is just the 25 or have additional positions already been approved? As I think I've stated previously, I don't usually post unless I feel like I have received reliable information from multiple sources. I am hesitant to drop the information I have heard bc of the pandemonium it might create amongst board members. Regardless, lets go with a #, let's say between 50 and oh, I dunno, 57.

Wow, I was not expecting that number. Well, now that we know the numerator and denominator, we can run the actual odds. 57/125 = .456. I would round down to get a clean number. So about 45% of interviewees will be selected. Incredible odds. Almost, but not quite, in coin flip territory.

To be honest, if I get 'the call,' I will be professional accepting the offer, but when I'm off the call, I will lose my mind shouting expletives and doing a happy dance! The energy is so hopeful and exciting!

Pixie started an Offers thread: Offers Made/Accepted thread
You can bookmark that thread so that you get an email alert when people start posting about offers received. Bookmarking a thread is simple. First, make sure you are logged in. Then navigate to the above thread, go to the "Actions" pulldown, and select Bookmark. To set up a notification, click on Profile tab toward the top. Then hit the Edit Profile button. Then click on the Notifications tab. Scroll down to Bookmark and change the pulldown to 'instant' so that you get an email as soon as the thread is updated. If you see missing options, try using a different browser. Chrome and Edge seem to work fine. Internet explorer, not so much. Good luck to all!

I didn't think about posting it as I think most are checking the board on a frequent (constant?) basis as we draw closer to the magic day. Pixie

So they will tell you where, when, how much (if you are a fed making more you will be able to send them the paperwork), and that's about it. The HR contact will be in the email they send you. That email will also include whatever paperwork you have to complete and when it is due. You can ask questions but I wouldn't ask about HOCALJ etc. Send me or someone a DM and we can get you that information. If I was going to be the board hero I would ask how many offers are being made & how many are left. I regret that I was not the Board hero when I got the call.

Now it is just a matter of seeing when the calls begin.....sure would be nice if it is tomorrow.......wishful thinking! Oh well, what's another weekend at this point?
How surreal to think many of those selected may be moving across the country in a matter of weeks. Good luck to everyone!

Unless things have changed, the HOCALJ doesn't reach out to you; you call them. Lots of times they don't even know they are getting a new judge.

That's absolutely true, sometimes the hearing offices are the last to know. Our HOCALJ even asked if I knew of any other hires coming to our office. SSA had sent me an email with the office address, phone number, and name of HOD / HOCALJ.
If you do get The Call, you don't have to contact your hearing office immediately. Or even that day. Celebrate!
