Is it fair to assume that calls are complete?

Is it fair to assume that calls are complete? Not necessarily, but if I were a betting man, I'd say it's likely they are done, yes. I think I counted 17 or 18 offers in that specific thread, and there may be a couple of stragglers who post after COB (but who nonetheless got the call earlier today). 17/18 is on track for what the estimate is for overall applicant Board participation. 18/57=around 32%, so close to 1/3 of the total positions.

At my last count there were 21 non FFV votes on the polls. If we captured between 1/3 to 1/2 of the applicants calls may be done. 21*3 = 63 (more hires than projected).

Sure feels that way. Obviously the board doesn't capture all of the offers, but the known locations are a bit perplexing. No preferred locations and only 7 of the 25 from the 2019 list.

Yeah. Been quieter longer than I like I estimated we would hear from 21 based on board participation in a poll about who got the call for an interview. Based on the poll results, there were 21 offers made so far today. I hope I was wrong and the calls keep continuing. Maybe getting the call is enough for some of those lurkers to participate, and participation will end up being higher than 1/3. Good luck!!!

Yeah, that's probably all of them or we would be seeing more action on the offer thread. Interesting that most candidates did not end up in preferred locations. It would be interesting to see a complete list of the offices getting new hires. I'm disappointed that I didn't get the call, but c'est la vie. Perhaps this will force me to find new hobby instead of dwelling on this (admittedly wonderful) board! Congratulations to the folks who made it through in this round. Many are called and few are chosen. Make sure you celebrate tonight!

Well, now I know. I can move forward. Let me know when we start discussing next round of hires.

Does anyone have an sense of the insider/outside ratio?

I know of 4 folks who got the call, and only one of those cities is checked in the poll. At least two of them got their preferred city. All are insiders.

So, do we now have the sense that this hiring was very location specific?
I’m feeling better about my hypothesis that they culled the interview (and possible scoring) of the applicant list based on a very limited list of cities they were specifically hiring for. So those not interviewed (and even some who were but were only on the list for not deep postings ala Johnstown or Valparaiso) may be in the running if (when???) there is a hire in the next year or so.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? While Valparaiso reports two hires, Johnstown is a goose egg. According to the polls-which require both Board and poll participation-and hence are not a super-scientific data point on which to rely (but better than nothing).

Does anyone have an sense of the insider/outside ratio? I wish one of you dedicated pollsters would do an insider/outsider poll. While it won't be all that accurate because the board is mostly insiders, it might give us an idea. The best way to find out is at training if someone, or several someones, will do a survey. Pixie

If you check out the location polls, you’ll see we have accounted for 36 of the 57 reported offers so far. Not bad reporting.
ETA: If you’ve already voted for yourself or for some other reason are unable to vote in the polls, feel free to PM me if you know of any other locations, and I’ll add them to the list (and preserve your anonymity).

Now that the furor has died down a bit, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the amazing people that make up this Board.
I was texting with a friend I made on this board (years ago) yesterday and it reminded me of the debt of gratitude I owe to all of them. I will not unmask my friend but he/she, Pixie, SSA, ARBAON (to name only a few) and so, so many others share selflessly. The intel and insights are many. Perhaps not always 100% accurate, but unfailingly offered in good faith. I know it helped me in the past and continues to so today. While the insiders and already sitting ALJs could simply just step away and take the view they don’t have to help others—they don’t. This is testament to their good character and further demonstrates who they are both as people and professionals.
I have taken my share of ribbing from the good folks on this Board. Pretty sure I have served a time out or two for my vastly under appreciated sense of humor. Still, I fully understand the hard work and diligence that goes into keeping a Board like this alive and relevant. I merely wanted to share my appreciation for how it has served as a valuable resource for me and so many others before me. I hope and suspect it will continue to do so as we seek to better understand this new process.
For that, I say “thank you” to each end every one of you.

I hadn’t yet shed a literal or figurative tear over not getting the call, but when I read this post, it opened the floodgates. Not because of sadness or disappointment, but because it reminded me of the quality of colleague whose ranks I want to join. dshawn I remember the day that you got “the call.” It was one of the only bright spots of 2019. As someone still in the chase, I am incredibly grateful for you and all of the current ALJs that return to the board day after day, year after year, and patiently answer questions that have been asked before (numerous times) and keep us uplifted and encouraged as we WAG and wail and bite our nails. I revisited one of my favorite quotes today: “Until it’s my turn, I will keep clapping for others. It’s really that simple.”

ARBAON your sentiment expressed more eloquently my thoughts and feelings than my verbose post did. I remember the day well. Changed my life. I appreciate the kind words on the same. I certainly hope for the same for you.
My only knock on this Board is that Pixie appears to have figured out how to block me from changing my Avatar from that fish to my beloved Great White. Try as I might, I am stuck with goldie. Nonidea how she does it.
Since you left us with a hopeful quote I shall reciprocate. Playing off your most excellent Board name I respectfully offer:
"What must be shall be." — Juliet
Hang in there. If you made it this far you are obviously well-qualified. Now the other factors simply have to align.

Keep up the good work, try taking advantage of every single opportunity the Agency has to offer, especially in these days, and keep applying for them. I made it this year, but only after trying 4 to 5 times previously. Now I realize that every experience has been worthwhile…

I came up with 28 from the polls- 3+12+9+4. Also- I am playing catchup, but where did we find out that 57 offers were made?
