The other localities right now can be accessed if you tweak the link for whatever locality you need to be read "24Tables" in that part of the link
I am sure it will be accessible without having to edit the link later this evening or tomorrow.

Thanks, Pix! And the same to you and yours!
I’m visiting Son #2 and my DIL in NoVa over the holidays. My son pointed out that with inflation, brand new ALJs aren’t making any more than I did when I started, back in the Dark Ages!
All is well with me. I’m enjoying reading through the threads. I hope you’re well. Thanks for all you do!
Best, Tony

When you feel down and out, just remember, the policy wonks at OCALJ and ADC will come up with another ludicrous idea and then blame the hearing offices when it does not work ….

Might be better to consider how long the shutdowns will be each year if a certain individual gets re-elected... Remember 2018?

question about locality pay: if your telework/home ADS is in a higher locality pay area than your Official Duty station ODS, can you get the ADS locality pay? I had originally concluded "no," but let me know if anyone has navigated that and successfully got ADS pay

question about locality pay: if your ADS is in a higher locality pay area than your Official Duty station ODS, can you get the ADS pay? I had originally concluded "no," but recently saw the "personnel policy policy manual chapter on telework," section 3.4, and thought maybe yes: it mentions that if you work in your ODS two days per pay period, you get ODS locality pay; if you dont, presumably you get ADS locality pay... which in my case is higher. Let me know if anyone has navigated that and successfully got ADS pay Your ODS is initially assigned when you recieve an offer for the ALJ gig. Your choice? Yes, I'll accept or no, I won't; There is only ONE option for location After 15 months, you can put yourself on the reassignment register. Again, you may receive a call, with the same choice of a yes or no response Even so, you are capped at five choices for ODS/location I believe that portion of the telework policy you cited addresses those who have an ADS at a lower rate of pay than their ODS. To keep your higher ODS pay you need to be in the office four days each pay period. I do not believe it works in the opposite manner CORRECTION 2 DAYS PER PAY PERIOD, OR 4 DAYS PER MONTH APPROXIMATELY Also, your ADS, you pick 100%, anywhere in the country presuming you can still cover your in person hearings. It is not too difficult to imagine what would soon occur if everyone could get a higher locality pay ADS, outside of their lower paying ODS. My two cents

Related issue: Remember that your state income tax liability as a federal employee is based on where you are stationed, not where you live. Choose carefully.

Without knowing your exact start year, in all likelihood new ALJs are making quite a bit less (after inflation) And to all, a good night. Just did some quick back of the envelope math (I am literally doing it on an envelope sitting on my desk), and I'm surprised that what I wrote above isn't quite accurate. If you started in 2004, the base ALJ pay was $91,200. With inflation, that is worth $145k in today's purchasing power. So, today's starting ALJs are actually making more even adjusted for inflation. Otoh, if you started in 2014, the base salary was $119,754. Adjusted for inflation, that is worth $156k today. So, present day ALJs are making less when compared to their counterparts 10 years ago. (And so, if you maxed out in 2014 and are still working, you have in fact gotten a pay cut over the past 10 years).

I’m simply impressed that new ALJs earn so much. But I’m old school: I still think a billion dollars sounds like a lot of money! Be well, Tony P.S. Why are you “sitting on [your] … desk”? Why not use a chair?

Related issue: Remember that your state income tax liability as a federal employee is based on where you are stationed, not where you live. Choose carefully. Your withholding is based on duty station but in most cases you have to file a return in state of residence as well. I had two years of filing a nonresident return in the state where I was stationed and a resident return at home. That was mildly unpleasant because while my home state gives a credit for income taxes paid to another state but my home state tax rate was higher.

If you have a tiny bit of income in your taxable home state (like interest, dividends), you might not have to file, but if your spouse has income and you file jointly, you will have to file. Best is to live and be assigned to work in a state with no income tax if you can arrange it.
So, if you get hired in Reno, NV, do not live in Truckee, CA!
