Just now the closest hotel (after 7 calls) is the Hampton in Alexandria. Address for interview is in email.

The metro stop is quite a hike from ODAR HQ. Not at all a long taxi ride from Nat'l.

Just an update: as of 9:45 calls are still being made and we are asked to "be patient."
Also, a taxi from union station could take quite a while depending on time of day. And, the HQ is 4 miles from the King Street Metro Station in Old Town. You can take a bus the 4 miles.
I would plan on taxis unless staying at the Homewood or Hampton.

Thanks for the updates! I have two hotels booked for two different dates as I don't have my interview scheduled yet and I don't know the available dates. Once I do have a confirmed interview date, I will be giving up my room at one of the hotels. Someone needing a room for that day may be able to get the room I give up. I will let you know more when I find out.

By the way, have you been getting your own flights too? How much are tickets at this late date?

I wouldn't book your flight. There has to be something left flight-wise. That is too great an out of pocket expense, and you may not get reimbursed if you do it yourself.

When they book it for you, they are getting a rate you cannot get anywhere, anyhow, yourself. Let them do it and pay for it.

Even though you should not book your flight yourself, I reiterate that it is a good idea to search for a good flight itinerary. The travel agent was not offering me a non-stop flight, but when I asked, she gave it to me. The government pays directly for the flight, and the rate they had to pay was only 65% of the full fare that I would have paid.

Anyone who is currently a federal employee know if we can book our flights using E2 solutions ourselves? I've found that easier in the past than dealing with calling SATO directly.

Thanks for the responses about the flight. I will wait. I am patient. Wolfiemom, I'm going to take your advice.

There is a Hampton at Reagan National. Does anyone know how far the cab ride is to the HQ building? I am thinking it might make more sense to just stay near the airport than to taxi out to a hotel that is not close to the interview sight anyway and then have to taxi back to the interview. It might make more sense to just get in the night before, relax near the airport, and then give plenty of time to get to the interview.

Mapquest says 7 1/2 miles, 12 minutes. That at least gives you an idea, as I'm sure depending on traffic the 12 minute part is variable. Your idea makes sense. The hotels near the airport tend to have shuttles, so that takes another cab ride out of the mix, too.

Thanks Observer. For me, that is the lowest stress option given the unavailability of the hotels near the building, even if I have to give myself an hour to get to the interview site in the morning....

Who needs the stress and the sticky clothes hiking to Puzzle Palace? Eat well, ride high.

On good authority,
Calls will go out today and tomorrow. Much like what we were told a few days ago.
Hang in there.

Can people tell me what is the date of their interview? I'm looking for the latest date. Maybe we should have a poll on this.
