I just heard that the offers are expected, based on an ALJ newsletter, to be made the week of July 19; so (if true), we can stop wondering each day (for a while).

Is the newsletter speculating just like we are?

Is the newsletter speculating just like we are? Excellent question.

Is the newsletter speculating just like we are? Yes, they saw my prediction on the poll thread and stole it as their own.

Actually, there is little precedent on the Board for prescription drugs. A spirited discussion on the merits of scotch, margaritas, vodka, beer and or wine; well, that's another matter. Single malt scotch seems to be the most favored.

Bourbon thank you very much. Or if it's a particularly bad moment, dry martini (gin, NOT vodka).

Week of 19 July, eh? That means only 3 more weeks of breath-holding AND ALJ forum/thread checking AND pondering the references we provided AND keeping our cool at work AND basically, just holding on by a very spider-web-thin thread! Phew!
As far as "Spirits" go... I reckon we need a few more of those fabulous Californians to help us appreciate the "therapeutic" benefits of wine! I'm certainly in!

Good luck to everyone who is waiting breathlessly.
Here is a question for other people who are references for current candidates--are calls for references still being made? I am a reference for 2 candidates. I have been called about one of them, but not the other.
When I checked, no one else has been called regarding the second candidate either. Is this unusual, or have other people had the same experience?

Some of us have had none of our references called as yet. I don't think there is any pattern to how they are being called. There is a stack of reference lists on each of the desks of we-don't-know-how-many employees of the contractor, and they are working through the stack. So, the scenario you describe is well within the range of what could happen under those circumstances.

I am still a bit concerned that it is bad news for those of us whose references have not been called yet. I find it hard to believe that it takes this long to check references. I sent my information in on May 29th.
However, it sounds as if some people had references checked before they even went for an interview. Which would lead me to think that they are not just checking references of people who did well in the interview and they plan to hire. But who knows at this point.

That's exactly why it is not worth stressing about it too much. (I recognize that it is hard not to) I remind myself, as I think bowser said elsewhere, that it is out of our hands now, and there is nothing more we can do. I am convinced there is no rhyme or reason to the order in which people are having their references called.

Great. I'm going camping the week of July 19 - no internet, doubtful cell phone service - ugh! As for beverages not to appear too low brow, but, as Homer Simpson said, "Mmmmm, beer."

I've heard two different rumors now -- both from supposedly reliable sources: First one, what I think we've mostly heard here -- offers toward the end of July and two different starting times -- end of Aug. and end of Sept. Second one, offers coming out prior to fiscal year-end, but starting time in January. Anyone else heard anything like that?

If I'm not mistaken, one of the ALJs mentioned having his/her references checked after being hired. Is my recollection correct?

Just to give more detail, the info published in the AALJ newsletter came from what the union was told at the most recent labor-management committee meeting held 6/9-10. The chief judge along with most of the higher up's with management were present in the room and stated hiring decisions will be made the week of the 12th and offers extended the week of the 19th. While things are always subject to change, there is no reason to think this is not what will happen

Does the SSA contractor call references AND current and previous employers for everyone regardless of whether they intend to make an offer? I thought we could not list current and prior supervisors as references, so I didn't, but today they called my current supervisor. This means nothing, right?

Perhaps it means something very good . . . . The last action taken by SSA that I was aware of before I received my offer was the unexpected call to my (then current) supervisor. Although I would not start packing my suitcases yet, I would say that this is a very good sign.
