Moo that is certainly true but you can still get an idea of how desirable an office is. It also may give us some insight into where future jobs will be.
For instance Cincinnati has 16 requests to transfer out. That means at least 6 people are trying to get out of the office. It has 1 request to get in. There are 15 ALJ slots there. IF they let everybody there who has requested a transfer do so and the one person trying to get in goes there (they might have 2 other choices as well) then SSA could be hiring 5 or more of us to go to the Queen City. Now based on the number of people trying to get out is that a good thing? Other than that it is possibly 5 of us getting the golden ticket I don't know the answer. This is certainly more fun than speculating about the date NORs will get released.

Gaidin thank you for that effort! While it is true that the requests out are hard to pinpoint (given that folks can request up to three locations) the requests in definitely represent a 1-1 ratio and can be illustrative. I find a little hope in that one of my locations (I have a very limited GAL) has a negative "final score" and no requested transfers in.

Et al, there is a new twist to the game. Each Judge can now have up to five (5) requested locations on the list for transfer.. Carry on..

Bartleby do you know if the transfer list posted the other day reflects that change?

I would think it does not, but I could be wrong. I think it may not change until the next regularly scheduled transfer list because of when the new contract became official just recently.

I would like to know when the five transfer request took effect and where I can find verification of this new policy.

I suppose you could look at disabilityjudges.com to get a general idea, but it's not the most accurate snapshot due to transfers, retirements, and such. I had looked at that and also noticed that judges will appear on more than one office's tally. I guessed they were doing details there etc. I am trying to put some extra detail on the spread sheet that was sent out earlier and I will use the disabilityjudges.com numbers and accept the lack of reliability. After all the data for the spreadsheet had flaws. I certainly don't think you can rely on any of the data to create an accurate representation of the current transfer list. However, my hope is you can use the data to create a reasonable set of trends in various offices. If an office has 5 ALJs and 15 requests to transfer out...... I'm still listed as an ALJ at an office I left two + years ago at disabilityjudges.com. A somewhat more reliable source for office size is the Agency's ALJ disposition data link. You'll still most likely get a rogue ALJ or two for the fiscal year you're viewing who doesn't work at that ODAR. For example: an ALJ recently transfered out of that ODAR and has been replaced by another ALJ; or that ODAR's RCALJ may have picked up a docket or two; or an ALJ from another ODAR who was kind enough to help out and pick up the docket for an ill ALJ or to help work down the backload; ...but you'll still be able to tell that the Birmingham or San Antonio ODARs have more ALJs than the Fort Wayne or Topeka ODARs and many more ALJs than the Fargo or Anchorage ODARs. They should be listing the numbers for the first fiscal month of 2014 shortly (perhaps the next few days), and this should be the optimum time to get the most accurate number for each office (because there will be less rogue ALJs on the list one month into the fiscal year). ALJ Disposition Data FY 2013 (For Reporting Purposes: 09/29/2012 Through 09/27/2013) www.ssa.gov/appeals/DataSets/03_ALJ_Disposition_Data.htmlYou can sort ALJs by their ODAR office by clicking headers to sort in Ascending or Descending order.

IIRC, it is in the new contract and another change is that the transfer list will be updated and I ssupose released monthly.
If I get a chance, I will see if I can locate it in the contract, but won't promise anything.

I will save you some trouble. ssaer posted Article 20, Section 3 on the following link, and it addresses the questions raised. aljdiscussion.proboards.com/thread/2344?page=2
