I learned last night that my WD appeal was unsuccessful. Dang. And what a long, strange trip it's been. But, hey, the sun still shines. Most important, my kids are all fine - much smarter and better looking than me! And I am a longtime state court system employee, well paid, with tons of discretion (and tons of annual vacation), and a part-time judge as well. And I may finally this year be making progress reducing my golf handicap. I'll be trying that again later today. Best of luck to you still in the hunt, or hoping to be. Seashells and balloons! Sorry 17, best of luck to you. Thank you for your kind wishes. I love your attitude.

Received notice this morning that my SI appeal is denied. Booooooooooo. Sorry to hear that superbonbon. I know that is a "bummer", as I continued to hold out some hope for you. However, I figured it might be much harder to appeal a SI decision as there is little to review under the process. I continue to wish you well and hopefully next time you will reach the register.

Is there a general school of thought as to whether it is a good idea to file an appeal in an employment situation such as this? I am a complete outsider, so perhaps I don't have any clue, but it seems to me that filing an appeal when a prospective employer says "no" doesn't exactly give the employer "good vibes" about a prospect. Thoughts?

Your appeal goes to OPM. You get hired by one of the agencies (usually SSA) not OPM. The hiring agency will probably never know or care if you appealed

Large numbers of folks have appealed various stages of this process and some have succeeded. The provision for appealing is there to be used IMHO. I find it hard to believe in this testing process, which is done by an agency separate from the actual employing agencies, that one suffers any adverse consequences for taking advantage of an appeal that OPM itself provided.
I for one am not concerend about being a "squeaky wheel" when it comes to appealing what I thought were incorrect determinations. As long as one's appeal was respectful and professional in tone (i.e., evidencing a judicious temperment) I can't see any possible downsides - only an upside if you're lucky enough to get your appeal granted.
It would be another thing I guess if one really came off badly in terms of how one appealed but even then what adverse effects could there be other than having your appeal denied? I can't see that there is some blacklist or anything of those who appealed that will somehow impact them on some furture application (when they open this process up again for new applicants).
If you didn't appeal you didn't have a chance anyway and if you appealed and were denied you are in the same position I'd say.

Received notice this morning that my SI appeal is denied. Booooooooooo. Damn. Yeah. Figured I had a very good, but completely unprovable case. Guess I'll have to wait for the refresh, or just give it another go in a few years.

There are folks who breeze through this process and get hired. Then there are the rest of us. If you fall into the second camp (and I would submit that the vast majority of readers are) then you have to ask yourself where did I go wrong? Of course you could go "wrong" by not getting a high enough score or even getting thrice struck but as all assiduous readers of these pages know, three striking is not only something you have no control over, but the incidence of same is way down thanks to OPM's new cert/city paradigm. And "wrong" is not the best term because as we all realize, once you get on the Register you are certified ALJ-worthy by OPM.
My second time around was alot different than my first. I learned to really think about everything and practice my interviewing. I wrote, I analyzed, I tore apart and re-constituted. My guide was the bar exam where failure was not an option. Mostly, I bore down and put my eye on the prize. I truly believe that desire is more important than luck. Two good examples of this are funky and tiger. Behind all the entertaining verbiage while they were waiting to be picked up was that fierce focus.

Hi. Newbie here. I appealed after online test portion in April 2014. I have not heard a peep. Is anyone else in my situation?

I believe the thought is that those who appealed the online test portion might be informed in conjunction with the scoring of those who successfully appealed initial eligibility or otherwise were invited to take the online testing component and went on to take and complete that testing. Some speculation on the Board is that the score results might be coming out in the next month or so given the timeframe judges were asked to take part in the structured interview process.
Given OPM's stated intention to lower the score to pass onto the DC phase, I imagine those who appealed the online test results might get some relief (i.e., get to go to D.C.) even if their specific appeal is not granted or even determined, provided their existing score meets this new threshold.

From the OPM ALJ website:
WD/LBMT Scheduling — As of August 13, 2015, applicants who completed the Online Component between June 22 – July 6, 2015 and were notified that they met the criteria to proceed to the next phase of assessments in the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) examination process, have been sent Admission Notices for the Written Demonstration/Logic Based Measurement Test and Structured Interview. Appeals Results Notifications — As of August 14, 2015, appeals results notifications have been issued to all applicants who appealed their Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) examination rating for ALJ Job Opportunity Announcement ALJ2013-847661.

So OPM is scheduling DC testing in at least two waves.
First to be scheduled were those who took the online testing this summer and got scores high enough to proceed to DC. I think these may be people whose scores were high enough that they would/should have proceeded to DC in 2013.
Second to be scheduled will be those whose online scores meet the new cutoff score. We have no reports of these folks being scheduled for DC testing on specific dates yet.

So...all appeals have been adjudicated? Did we see any reports by anyone that was cut due to missing the minimum on the SI or WD who had their appeal granted? Then were scored and placed on the reg? Maybe I missed it. I remember some who got their appeal denied, just wondering if any were successful at that stage.

Yes, someone posted a few weeks ago (or more) that their appeal for not meeting the minimum on the WD was granted. I too cannot recall who it was.
