Ok, it's nearly midnight on the 20th here. I am putting down a 2 dollar bet.....you heard that right, $2!!, that those of us that received an email invite on the 13th or 14th of August, will today (the 21st) receive our email stating the dates of our testing/interview! Woohoo, hold your breath all damn day, cuz I'm probably wrong, but let's start some speculationing! (That's a word, isn't it?).

Still, I will see your 25 cents and raise you one beverage of your choice if the opportunity presents itself. [Of course, standard beverage size and various other restrictions apply!].

Nothing in this process has moved immediately after a deadline. There is always lag time for OPM to get things in order. Just keep in mind OPM has many other duties aside from all of the ALJ register related issues. I know it is hard to be patient at this point (over 2 years since application). Good luck all!

So true Gary. I think this current step, email invite to DC and subsequent testing, shall move relatively fast, in federal government terms. And then............................the long pause! And, if fortunate enough to continue on, many, many more long pauses, from what I gather from the Board. Edit|. Darn it, did it again. This was a response to Gary's comment, but attached to JudgeRatty's. Oh well, but my response applies to yours as well JudgeRatty, thanks to the both of you! Edit 2: ok, it's been a tough day, it wasn't Gary after all, so apparently I've been reading too much on the board lately and it is all blurring. Time soon to call it a week!

Cafeta get ready for having a lot of patience. The waiting on the process and even once you make the register requires extreme patience. Good luck!

I figured out my confusion, I got the two dog avatars mixed up! :-). By the way Gary, your cat appears identical to my last cat. I'll have to share a pic sometime.

That's OK. Sam was pretty easy going so he would have forgiven you confusing him with a dog.

"This thread is for discussing getting to test in late August early September 2015. Including travel, stress, rumors, math fun, what to wear, etc. I am posting this because we have several threads going on where this info is getting spread out and the original thread is really long."
I've been to the DC "bar exam" and interview--in 2007. And recently got a notice that my appeal got me a seat at the next phase in DC. Last time is a dim memory. Don't even remember where I stayed. Can anyone recommend a cheap hotel close to the testing place? At this point, I'm not willing to run up a big tab on the slim chance I might get one of those much coveted gigs.

I tested in August, 2013, and used a $100 bid on Priceline that landed me the Helix hotel (Kimpton group), on Rhode Island Avenue. The selected neighborhood for the bid was Georgetown/Foggy Bottom. It was a modern boutique hotel that was very nice. It was equidistant (5 minute cab ride) between testing at OPM and the SI at a different hotel (I think Homewood Suites), and a 5 minute walk to DuPont Circle.

One thing anyone who is concerned about proximity should add as a consideration is that the SI may or may not start early in the morning. Mine was at 8:00 or close to it. However, some people had afternoon times. The WD/LBMT starts early and goes all day but you may have lots of time before your SI. So being closer to the OPM building may make more sense to you. The link below has some really solid discussions. They are 2 years old and I am not sure the SI will be in the same hotel but I think every possible way to cut costs is listed therein. aljdiscussion.proboards.com/thread/2228/dc-hotels-suggestions-deals-etc?page=1

I'm in the August 14 email group.
Seriously, after I heard in 2013 that I didn't advance to the next group, I recycled all my info and paperwork and forgot about the job. I'd found this forum, and I even forgot about the forum. Imagine my surprise when I found something in my junk email (which I rarely look at) and found I had suddenly "advanced." The sender and subject line were so nondescript that I almost ignored it. It looked suspiciously like the sort of junk message I get regularly from the state bar association.
So now I am best friends with my junk email.
As I await good/bad/indifferent/basically any news, I would love to see which locations I identified as my GALs. Someone said we can look at our applications through application manager. How? I go to applicationmanager.gov, and it either says access is denied or directs me to USAJobs. I go to USAJobs, click on jobs I've applied to, and I see that the position is closed. I can still see the original job posting, and all the GALs, but not MY GALs. Things have changed for me in the past 2.5 years, and the GALs that might have attracted me now may not be the ones that attract me now. So at best I can make a WAG.
Any pointers?

First log in to USAJobs. Go to the specific ALJ job posting and look for the "more information" link. Click on that and it will direct you to Application Manager. Once you reach that page for "application status tab" look for the View/print my answers button. That will direct you to your initial application answers including the cities you noted you'd relocate to.

Yes - that should work - unless people are like me who used Application Manager to apply and then inexplicably someone decided to reboot/cancel/eliminate/destroy etc. that particular version of Application Manager without any warning really that I recall. I believe there was some discussion of this at the time and some people (SSA folks if I recall) got some heads up that this was going to happen and were able to pull/copy their information before they pulled the plug on Application Manager. Good luck.

so i have an exciting weekend of laundry and DC test prep planned :/ i hope the rest of you have more exciting plans. I've got about the same amount of excitement planned. I am finding it very hard to prep though without having a test deadline. Not due to procrastination so much but more so due to not wanting things to go stale in my head. (not that there is that much going on up there).

well, if your brain's got the room, you can fill it with all sorts of "logic" not to mention randomly guessed at interview answers!!!! kind of preferred the LSAT, SAT, etc when we had some sort of vague idea what the testers were looking for. oh well, such is life. my "loves to slowly prep over time" side is getting a little ocd about the lack of info available from opm on just how to prep. not fishing for stuff anyone.. just a commentary that my preference is to know what to prep for....
