Interesting because that implies to me that there will be two sets of people testing and not one.

They may grade them separately too, with the first group getting NORs earlier than the second.

But there have been people who reported getting their WD/LBMT and SI dates already, who might be in a different group.

I just received my OPM e-mail which states that my score was not sufficient to go to round 3 during their first cut, but that now I will be invited in late summer to do the written demo, logic based measurement test and structured interview. My notice states: [your score] is not within the range of the highest scored sub-group of all the eligible applicants [other score]. OPM has decided to permit a larger group of the preliminarily qualified candidates from the first administration of the current examination to move forward to the proctored and in-person components (i.e. written demonstration (WD) and logic-based measurement test (LBMT) and the structure interview (SI) of the ALJ examination. Based on its review, OPM has determined that your Online Component score is within the range permitted to move forward to the Proctored and In-Person Components. Accordingly, your ineligibility rating of [score] has been cancelled. In addition, you are being provided with the opportunity to proceed and participate in the next stages of the ALJ examination listed above. While poorly written, the gist is that many/some/few of us (?) have been invited to move to the next round. I didn't read the comments below to know if someone has already posted this language. Forgive the duplication if so. FedHL Congrats HL! I noticed that your notification indicated your score, and understand that some of us feel that is personal information however, could you give us a range or a " it was below a 60" so folks have an idea of what OPM was looking for at round 2 testing?? Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting. I got identical language, but the email had some weird garble that didn't appear to be a numerical score. After reading your post I just reviewed the email again, but I don't believe an actual score was indicated anywhere, or I would have been glad to provide some frame of reference.

You've got a few more hoops to jump through before they give you a score - your NOR (Notice of Rating). Although OPM's emails mention scores, the intermediate scores are not given out. Once you've completed the written demonstration, logic test, and structured interview (and do well enough on each), you'll get a formal notice of your NOR.

Yes - it looks like there are 2 OPM groups - and the threads understandably are getting very confused. There's the 1st group that has testing and interview dates with OPM set at the end of Aug into Sept, and there's the 2nd group that is just getting notice from OPM that they will be invited and must make sure their emails are correct by Aug 21 in order to "self schedule" to take the tests and interview sometime after that. That's all just to try to get onto OPM's Register.
Then among the folks on the Register already, there's a group that's just interviewed with SSA and a bunch of us who've gotten city-cert notices from SSA and are hoping for phone calls from them.
LOTS of anticipation on the Board these days!!

I just received word after 3 pm that I am moving on to the WD, LBMT and SI later this Summer. Did not take the online test in 2013, but received an invite to take the online component by July 6th. So happy!

The process tests aptitudes, experience and skills for a particular job. You have to be able to run a hearing and question witnesses. You sit alone for many hours while sifting quickly through mounds of medical and related evidence. You make decisions quickly, edit the final product and manage your caseload, with production quotas that give you little time to review each case. You do all those things within the framework of a large bureaucracy that has lots of rules. This job is not for everyone, but that's true of all jobs.
I can't say whether the OPM testing + SSA interview are adequate for selecting people who can successfully do the ALJ job. However, not making the cutoff score only means that either you don't have the specific skills, experience and aptitudes they are seeking (for this one job) or that you did not show you have them in a way that could be demonstrated within the parameters of the selection process.
The emphasis in selection has shifted to litigation experience. Most of the people in our training class that just ended were outsiders. The majority had recent experience as litigators or neutral adjudicators. Quite a few seemed to have had federal, state or local agency experience.
I believe, although I am not certain, that you only get a numerical score if you make the register.
