I personally think you are right to be worried. In fact, if your references haven't been called by 5 today, you probably have no shot and should just quit. (Caveat: I have no dog in the hunt and this board has become primarily a source of entertainment for me. Thus, the more drama the better.) I agree. SWW you only have a few more hours to know if you are in the game or not. If no calls by 5:00 pm Eastern, you might as well give it up. Let us know if any of your references get the call. We are pulling for you. Pixie.

If you are a careful reader of these pages, you will note that I have been on the worrisome end of most of the process and usually the last in the chain when events occur. I have read all manner of things into the process, heeding and not heeding the advice of those more in the know. It is odd that I am now close to the forefront of some of my references being called, likely for no apparent reason. My posting of the Arizona area code, I thought, added to the mystery, wonder and irony of it all. Perhaps SSA moved your reference calls to the front because they figured you couldn't take much more of this.

When you consider there is a five story building in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico housing the SSA call center, you could also use the area code to question if it is a contract company calling.

Oh man, from Funky's lips to the contractor's ears...all is well worrywart, et al. Wait a second, is Funky one of the contractors? Nope. Not a contractor. Just incredibly gifted at funknostication. AKA BS. Everyone really should relax. Your references will be called if you are on the cert. Unless you were on the most recent previous certs and they feel the last time they talked to your references was recent enough. They will ask all of them the same questions regardless of whether they are listed as one of the 9 specific personal references or a past employer/supervisor. The questions are the same as have been asked in the past and are reported here on the board. Don't fret. This part should be easy. Afterall, you picked these folks or they are past coworkers that most likely really miss you. Ssa insiders do have one caveat. I dunno if it's the contractor that does this or if ssa does it on its own, but your direct supervisor will be asked different questions. Mine was asked specifically about my measureables (production, agree rate) and generally about how I fit in at the office. It's part of that insider edge that cuts both ways. Meet expectations (or better yet exceed them) and get along with your fellow odarians and ssa will want you. Have too many 2's on your PACS, be a chronic 75%er or be considered a tumor in your office and you can forget it with ssa. Quit worrying about references and focus on your interview. That's what is in your hands. And for the love of all that's holy, hurry up. If we don't get some reinforcements soon I am going to have to start holding night court.

I don't know how much of this back and forth is tongue in cheek but just want to clarify that the location of the reference checker is not related to the location(s) you are considered for and past experience indicates evening and weekend calls are to be expected.

Question: one of my judge references just gave me his updated telephone number and email... I think the answer is no, but would it be possible to provide the updated information? I gave his office number so there is a chance he will still get the call but his cell phone would be much better. Thanks for any input.

I gave his office number so there is a chance he will still get the call but his cell phone would be much better. Thanks for any input. The answer is probably no. If you want to try, you could send the info to Bob or Mellinda at the SSA email address to which you returned documents and let them decide what to do with it.

I think the materials said once we sent in the information, it could not be changed so to be sure the telephone numbers were correct. But I agree with Gary, if you want to try that's probably the way to do it.
I've heard back from a number of my references that they've been called. One of my judge references is out of town, and won't be back until next week He will come back to at least one message on his cell phone, I assume. I should probably give him the heads-up. After being gone for a few weeks he will be swamped and may not get around to listening to his voicemail for days and days.
